Guest guest
Hi, Did the Dr say what the defect was called? Is it a type of aortic arch? If I was you I would be asking a whole load more questions and then possibly seeking a second opinion. Hope you get some answers soon. Take care. Guest guest
Jillyan has something similar -- I can't remember which artery/vein it is since it has been 16 months -- but the artery/vein that leaves the heart is supposed to be one vessel and then splits into 2 -- I know one of the two goes to the brain -- anyway -- instead of one splitting into two she has two coming off the top of her heart. Her thoracic surgeon said he sees this defect in non-CHARGERs occasionally and it is a non-issue and will never cause her any problems. On my husband's side of the family there is heart disease, high cholesterol, etc. prior to age 50 -- My pediatrician tests all kids at age 5 (healthy or not) for there cholesterol levels. If elevated then they get yearly checks -- if not -- then they are tested every 5 years. Huggins Mom to Jillyan (16 mos) and Hailey (5 yrs) Heart Malformations When maryanne was born, I was told that maryanne had a miniscule hole in between the upper chambers of her heart. After a recent ECG it was discover that the hole has repaired it self, but she does have a mutated heart. the aorta that enters the top of her heart splits right before entering the heart. both of the aortas do meet back up at the entrance of the heart. Her cardioligost says that he has seen it before, and it isn't that uncommon. Also I not supposed to worry because he says it's fine. But I worry because heart disease before 50 is prevelant in my family. Should I get another opinion?
