Guest guest
I have been diagnosed with a uterine fibroid the size of my uterus. It is non-cancerous and I have noticed that it does cause some discomfort on my left organs and on my bladder. When I feel I have to urinate, it is minimal urination. I feel bloated and heavy. I have been doing yoga for two weeks, three weeks ago I started applying the progesterone cream which a homeopathic doctor in Wisconsin recommended based on a highly suspected estrogen dominance. I am also applying a vaginal suppository called Pleo Ut " S " -homeopathic. I am not due for my surgery for another month. My OBGYN would like to do a hysterectomy based on just stopping the problem from reoccurring. He wants to take everything. If I had to have the surgery and what I am doing homeopathically does not shrink it, what would be my risks to request that just my uterus be removed. The fibroid is on the outside of my uterus. I want to avoid surgery at all costs. Please help. tina --- Carla Dionne wrote: > ...just once I'd like to see a positive story on > female sexual function > that talks about renewed sexual activity/interest > after getting > appropriate medical care... > > ...or, if the news has to stay negative...then how > about a story on > women who suddenly gain an interest or surge in sex > drive (possibly due > to renewed health or maybe just a perimenopausal > surge in hormones) and > the spouse isn't able to keep up or grew accustomed > to diminished sexual > function.... > > ...or a statement that says " she " instead of " he " , > as in the following > statement made this morning on the Today show: > > " Also, when you consider that the divorce rate is > 50 percent, many > divorces being due to infidelity, it’s important to > realize that if you > never want to have sex with your spouse, he may look > elsewhere. Guest guest
Tina, It sounds like you are trying things that might help. I have not tried those things my problems seem to be the pain and I am going to the bathroom a lot. My doctor is trying another medication to see if that helps. She also wants to do the hysterectomy on me. I really don't want the surgery either but I might not have any choice as you might not either. Who know it depends on how much you can take before you give into it. That is how I feel for now but I will keep trying other things for now. Good luck, Libby Re: sexual functioning... Guest guest
Tina, have you had a 2nd opinion? Did your doctor tell you that you can have surgery to remove just the fibroid and leave your uterus intact? Did your doctor tell you about Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UAE) a procedure that cuts off the blood flow to the fibroid causing it to shrink and die? You need to research your options if your doctor has not yet told you what they are. --- Tina Swartz wrote: > I have been diagnosed with a uterine fibroid the > size > of my uterus. Guest guest
Tina, No not yet but I will. We talked about just removing the fibroids she tried that back in December by lap/myomectomy. She removed part of the one from the cervix but could not do the one in the back of the uterus, it is to big. By the time she removes it there won't be anything left of my uterus. So she thought this would help me for a while but if the bleeding keeps up and the cramping and bowel problems then I am not sure what to do. I am not sure I trust the UAE it is not that well studied and it eventually leads to a hysterectomy for anyway. So I will have to do the wait and see kind of I think? Who know? Guest guest
Libby, there is no evidence that UAE will lead to a hysterectomy anyway. Guest guest
Libby, there is no evidence that UAE will lead to a hysterectomy anyway. The rate for hysterectomy after UAE is something like 1% which is pretty good odds to me. --- LIBBY STEPHENSON wrote: > Tina, No not yet but I will. " Yes, women are just about as likely to " look elsewhere " as men, statistically, so why don't they say that? I believe part of the reason (my observation) that more women have a low sex drive is that: a)they tend to be more uptight about talking about sex and telling their partner what they want. Most men don't seem to have that problem. b)alot of men seem to think the sex act centers around them and their own orgasm. A lot of men think the act is over when they have reached orgasm and that the woman should have somehow achieved her own through intercourse alone, which is not enough for many women. c)according to statistics, there are a lot of women who never learned how to masterbate, who never really explored how to even bring THEMSELVES to orgasm, so how can they teach anyone else? d)a lot of men don't bother to learn how to preform oral sex. e)I think that women have a tendancy to put most of their effort into pleasing the guy, and settle for less themselves. I also hate it when they say (like they did in the Today show)that women don't respond to pornography, according to a friend who has a video store, my own experience, and what i've read, women are renting porn ALOT. So much for the idea that women are not stimulated by visual imagery or that women only like 'romantic' depictions of sex and are too delicate for anything down and dirty... Guest guest
Teri, I thought that was what some women were saying that they ended up with the hyst. anyway. I still am not convinced I need the hyst. but today is 5 days into this period and I am bleeding like crazy. I feel terrible and have a headache on top of it. I will definitely talk to my doctor about the UAE. Thanks Libby Re: sexual functioning... > > > Tina, have you had a 2nd opinion? Guest guest
Libby, Not very many gynecologists are familiar with UAE, and many of them are actually hostile towards it as it is not a procedure that they do, so don't expect your current doctor who is pushing for a hysterectomy to be very positive about it. --- LIBBY STEPHENSON wrote: > Teri, I thought that was what some women were saying > that they ended up with > the hyst. anyway. Guest guest
Teri, thanks for the heads up. I will see what she says I go back to see her in about 2 weeks. Guest guest
Tina: If your fibroid is as large as your uterus and on the outside of your uterus (subserosal fibroid), I think a myomectomy might be the best treatment for you. A single subserosal fibroid should not pose a great risk of the surgery resulting in hysterectomy, but do try to ensure you choose a surgeon you can trust. If your present doctor is pushing for hysterectomy despite your wishes, you might think about finding another doctor. Have you discussed myomectomy with your doctor? If you have many other fibroids, UAE might be a better option, especially since you wish to avoid surgery. There is much less risk of reoccurence with UAE. My hesitation about UAE is that it would still leave you with a fibroid that is large in relation to your uterus and that might pull your uterus too much. I did ask a gynaecologist about the danger posed by subserosal fibroid which is still large after UAE, but her opinion is that it is not a problem as the womb retains a degree of mobility. But I have read of women who couldn't have cervical examination because of fibroid distortion of the uterus and I read of one woman who had to had surgery because a weighty fibroid was causing prolapse even after UAE. If your fibroid is large I would be doubtful that homeopathic treatments are going to be enough to alleviate the bulk symptoms. I suggest you have the growth of the fibroid monitored and be considering treatment alternatives in case your preferred treatment is not effective enough.
