Guest guest
Whew...I feel better already! :-) I hope my intro post didn't scare too many people off, I am just so shocked to find what's going on out there - but I'm sure many of you have known this for years, so it's nothing new for you - and my newbie naievete is somewhat amusing! I am concerned about electing for this surgery, and now that I've made up my mind how I want to proceed, I need to do due diligence on my docs, and make sure I choose the right one! (recos for docs who can do large fibroid myos in NYC are invited from the board) Am concerned too, about sexuality after myo, so found the proceeding posts on the subject to be really helpful. Sex is so treacherously painful now because of the tipping of my uterus (from the fibroids) I wonder why my hubby hasn't left me yet :-) I hope the group doesn't mind if I stick around for awhile as I navigate the treatment waters - I promise to behave (well, for the most part!!) R. PS: If there are any advocacy movements out there working to change the status quo of this fibroid scandal, I'd love to donate my energies and newly stirred up passion. We can create a new one called " WFPRO: Women Fighting to Protect our Reproductive Organs " . Who's in?? ;-) > In a message dated 1/31/02 7:41:59 AM Pacific Standard Time, > randi_rosenberg@y... writes: > > > > Thanks for letting me share - it's been bottled up since I started > > reading! :-) > > > > Randi: > > Welcome, and I'm glad you decided to ''uncork " . > Cheryl > > >
Guest guest
Randi, I am sure that you have read posts from the founder of this board, Carla Dionne. She also runs the National Uterine Fibroid Foundation, NUFF. She has been fighting the good fight for our uteri for quite some time and I'm sure would welcome your support. The website is NUFF.org. --- randi_rosenberg wrote: > Whew...I feel better already! :-) > > I hope my intro post didn't scare too many people > off, I am just so > shocked to find what's going on out there - but I'm > sure many of you > have known this for years, so it's nothing new for > you - and my > newbie naievete is somewhat amusing! > > I am concerned about electing for this surgery, and > now that I've > made up my mind how I want to proceed, I need to do > due diligence on > my docs, and make sure I choose the right one! > (recos for docs who > can do large fibroid myos in NYC are invited from > the board) > > Am concerned too, about sexuality after myo, so > found the proceeding > posts on the subject to be really helpful. " I'm sorry to hear you've experienced both breast cancer and fibroids at such an early age (early 30s). I'm confused about how tamoxifen would promote fibroid growth. I knew it wasn't one of the drugs used to shrink fibroids, but isn't it also anti-oestrogenic? As for the other issues, tumours removed at myomectomy will be examined in the pathology lab, so you don't need hysterectomy now just in case of malignancy. The surgeon could also have a look at your ovaries while doing the myomectomy; you might want to discuss what should be done if any unusual cysts or tumours are observed. Have you had genetic screen and/or is there any family history of ovarian cancer or early breast cancer? I think the doctors should consider your wish to have children before any more radical surgery is done. (I know someone with breast cancer who is considering prophylactic oophorectomy - though in similar circumstances I don't think I would?? - but she already has children)
