For most eople ti is acurate. the reason mine is lower in RBC thanserum

is because IO stay in a state of mild ketoacidosis from insulin and low

carbing.

I mixed up 200 grams of KCL in 2 liters. Assuming my calculations are correct

and there is about 650/tbsp, I am taking around 2-4000 depending on what is

going on. Don't really keep track. If I have a headache I take 2 tbsp every

couple of hours. I was afraid to take so much with the diruetic, but it seems

that is not a problem.

I have been on insulin about 2.5 years. I take 4-5 shots a day. Am and

PM I take a long acting insulin called lantus, and with meals and for

Dawn Rise I take Humalog 2-3 times a day. I use a meal planning sheet to

calculate doses and dose the amount for what I am eating. It took months

of meal carb counting and weighing foods to get the amounts worked out,

but I have a friend that has created a system of calculating grams

eaten by our specific insulin resistance and needs and onec the set up

was done it si easy to stay on. I am able to keep my A1c's in the low

5's whichsi a very good oplace to be fro a Diabetic and should keep most

the complications if not all of them away for many years if nto forever.

Actually I am probably doing more like 4-6000. So if I still have fluid

retention problems I must need more, huh?

wow, just want to say that I just got back from taking blood test. what a difference with ecolabs! It was super easy.

In comparison to calling my low income clinic, phone tag with dr, begging and being crafty to get her to order blood work without an appointment. Then waiting begging for results without an appointment.

wow, I feel like such a grown-up!

question; I too am on atkins type diet and therefore am mildly keto...so should I keep that inmind as I interpret the potassium results?

Now that I know my low carb diet on insulin is causing ketoacidosis which causes higher than what os real SERUM results, I knwo to treat potassium when I am below 4.5. thsi si oper a study my doctor sent me.-- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

Yes as wiht acidosis you will tend ot have higher serum levels and they stated in the study these peopel should be treated with potasisum when their levels reach 4.5 or lower.

Low 5's is great Val - I hope you stay complication free for the rest of your life. I've been on insulin for almost 27 years, since I was 15, and also take Lantus as well as a short acting. 7 injections a day - but no problems anywhere, especially eyes. Health is very good although I recently developed a frozen shoulder, which I'm told is common in long term diabetics.

It's not easy getting used to the diet and treatment regime - you've done very well. One of my daughter's friends ( a 13 year old) got type 1 diabetes last year, and she's also handled it brilliantly. You wouldn't wish it on your worst enemy, but I am always happy when I hear of someone else managing it well.

Good luck!
