Guest guest
Bo, We were also doing the warm bottle to the tummy, massage, etc. Jillyan would just scream out in pain when she was a new born. Our issue with her is that we are introducing more complex foods for her. The weak muscle tone issue also follows along with the colon and other areas I'm sure as well. Since she is still not mobile she is not exercising those tummy muscles which help to push everything out. With our new PT (who give her a complete 60 minute workout whether she likes it or not!) we sometimes get a BM during therapy -- which sounds silly -- but we get so excited as she is using those muscles. Jilly was extremely gassy with my breast milk. Then when they put her on the 24 calorie formula it got even worse. At that time (she is orally fed) we put Karo syrup in her bottle to help or the glycerin suppository. We had a quiet period of time where this was not a problem and then all of a sudden 1 month ago she started suffering from extremely serious constipation. Mineral Oil I will say has been the life saver. We've cut out all baby cereal and bananas and we've starting adding water to her whole milk and juice. She loves milk -- and it has been the biggest constipator of all. We do a lot of veges and citrus type fruits and she appears to be fine -- as long as she gets her dose of mineral oil. Best of luck -- Even as a new born Jillyan did not have regular BM's -- Every other day seems to be her style -- even with the oil. Huggins Mom to Jillyan (17 months) & Hailey (5 yrs) Re: abdominal migraine This subject is extremely interesting to us. We have been experiencing the same type of behavior but it's so early in the game for us, it's hard to tell if it's just gas or is having more major abdominal pain. Some days, it seems like his stomach hurts him all day long. He grunts and groans and cries and pushes but never has a bm. He can be consoled by picking him up and bouncing him a bit, but i don't think he had too much time when he was awake yesterday that he didn't seem uncomfortable. At one point, we put a hot water bottle on his belly and he relaxed for about 20 minutes and seemed content. Some massaging has helped while i'm massaging, but it seems to hurt him soon after. We have had to use a glycerine chip each day for the last few days to see a bm. He was going just fine it seemed in the NICU. We are also playing with his food mix. We switched from breast milk and rice cereal to infamil A/R and his gas seems to be better but he seems more constipated. We have been introducing breast milk back into his diet and are nearly at half-and-half consistency now. His stools are soft, but they are very far between. From all the posts we've been reading, we will ask our doctor about mineral oil today. I hope to stop any aversion he may have to painful bm's. Bo 3 Mo.
