Question for the group on postponing surgery

I have been reading the list for a couple of weeks to try to get a handle on

Fibroids. I thank you all for your honesty.

I have multiple fibroids, too many to count (I was told) which are causing an

18 week belly and some pressure. I bleed very heavily, but only for one day.

I am 52, experience hot flashes occasionally, urinate frequently and miss a

period here and there. My weight has gone from 115 to 125 mostly in the belly

area. I am scheduled for UAE the end of this month.

After reading everyone's symptoms I feel that mine are not so severe and I

think I want to wait hoping menopause will kick in soon. Of course, if my

symptoms got worse I could always reschedule. Does anyone see any problem

with this? My fear is that my after surgery symptoms could be worse (as in

severe discharge for a long time) than what I'm suffering now.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I am new to this group (about the last couple of weeks). I understand what

you are going through. I too am trying to decided what to do.

I've decided, through my research, that while my symptoms are not as bad as

some have described, they are bad enough and I don't want them to progress to

the point that some of these women describe either. For me, quality of life

is an important factor in deciding whether to " deal " with the problem and by

what method. I also don't want to limit my options by waiting until the

fibroids get so large that I limit my options (either in procedures available

to correct the problem or in timing of a procedure). I have also come to

believe that certain procedures (ie UAE) are better performed when the

fibroids are smaller rather than larger. When that procedure causes the

fibroid to shrink, and your fibroid is, lets say 20 cm, a 50% reduction is

10cm. If your fibroid is 6 cm, a 50% reduction is 3 cm.

Anyway, here are some of the things that have been going through my mind on

all this. Hope it helps.
