,

I don't know how cold your feet are, but I hope you are going through

with your myo. I think your descriptions of UAE and myo are generally

correct, but why are you asking this question so close to the date of

your surgery?

I too was terrified of general anesthesia. So much so that I put off

having a myo for nearly one year after it was recommended. Is it

possible for you to speak with the anesthesiologist prior to your

surgery? I think that information is the best antidote to fear. I am

sure that everything will turn out OK. Please keep in touch after

your surgery is over.

I assuming the difference between UAE and Myomectomy would be:

> with UAE: its only for fibroids in certain locations, no general

anesthesia and speedy recovery. With myomectomy, general anesthesia

and the surgeon can take a peek to see whats going on inside the

uterus and repair.

, talking to the anesthesiologist like Margaret suggested is a great idea.

I too was nervous about the anesthesia before my myo and all went fine. I did

not talk to my anesthesiologist ahead of time before, and if I do another myo

(which I might) I am definitely going to. having more information can really

help you combat the fear. Are you taking anyone with you when you go to have

surgery? Thinking of you. Robyn

can anyone add to this or correct me if I'm wrong.

oh yes, its required that someone goes with you. I will definitely be talking

to the anesthesiologist. I am petrified to the point of canceling... I can't

help it. I guess because other doctors tried to tell me not to get it and go

the watch and wait method. I have been feeling great up until the last two

weeks before the surgery. Now I feel awful. what is wrong with me.

Let me tell you that you are not alone. I was terrified beyond words

about the anthesia. I had a foot operation about 10 yrs ago and I

got sick from it. I didn't want that to happen again. The

anthesiologist (spelled wrong) came in prior to the surgery and went

over a bunch of health related questions. He explained what he was

going to do. I told him that I got sick before from it and they gave

me something to counteract it via IV when I came out of surgery. I

was such a nervous wreck, crying like a big baby when he was asking

me the questions because I was soo nervous, they gave me Versed (via

IV) to calm me down. It worked!!! Ask for that. When I came out

from surgery I wasn't sick. I was nauseau from the morphine pump and

they meds they gave me via IV helped that. I didn't vomit. I was

just light headed when I tried to sit up. The only problem I had

with the anthesia was that a small patch of my hair broke off in the

back. My hairdresser warned me about it and said that sometimes this

will happen. She gave me a good conditioner prior to surgery and

after surgery. The patch is fine. You may want to be careful about

that. But you will be fine!! If I can do it....anyone can! My

family knows what a baby I am (smile).

, nothing is wrong with you. You have some terror, understandably, this

is a big deal. and they do these surgeries all the time with no major problems.

Cover your bases and then work to find ways to calm yourself. Bach flower remedy

-- Rescue Remedy helps me, exercising, connecting with a friend, letting it

all out. Finding out what is at the base of your terror could really help. Is

it the feeling out of control? You're not alone in this. Do you feel

confident in your surgeon? That was important to taking away my panic. Sending

good energy your way. Robyn A.

Hang in there. I recently had fibroids removed vaginally. I was nervous and

rather sensitive and sore due to the position of my fibroid so I asked for a

general. Each time I have ever had a general, the anesthesiologist has come

in, explained in detail, and asked if I had further questions. He also

continued to explain what he was doing each step in surgery as well. I was

lucky because he also had a sense of humor. When my gallbladder was removed

over a decade ago, and probably because the surgery was longer, I think I

was more groggy. That could have been due to the pain medication as well. I

told the anesthesiologist I only got to 99 when asked to count backwards

from 100. He assured me the stuff he was doing this time was the

" mathematical-free " stuff. I remember waking up very happy, hungry, and

asking if they had any Chinese food. No nausea, headaches, or concerns. I

hope that your experience goes as easily as mine.
