I am happy that you are fully recovered from your second surgery - what an

ordeal!

I was supposed to have an abdominal myo last spring, but backed out because

I wanted further testing to see if I was a candidate for hysteroscopic

resection, among other reasons. My latest test results (MRI) show one 5 cm

submucosal fibroid. An earlier diagnostic hysteroscopy showed two 2 cm

submucosal fibroids. I am trying to find a doctor who specializes in this

surgery who won't require me to go on Lupron. I found the name of a doctor

through this group's archives who removed a group member's 5.5 cm, tennis

ball sized fibroid. I am trying to get an appointment, but cannot get one

until her office gets its new computer system up and running. She will

probably want me to undergo another diagnostic hysteroscopy since I have

conflicting test results.

Did your doctor also do a laparoscopy along with the hysteroscopic

resection? Do you know if only half a fibroid is removed, can the remaining

portion be cauterized to prevent bleeding before the second surgery?

If there is 2.5 cms to an inch how could 5.5 cms be the size of a tennis ball ?

I feel that the centimeter thing causes confusion and that it is important to

understand the actual

size being discussed

I don't know, Bonnie. I'm confused. I have a 5 cm fibroid which one doctor

told me is about 2 " , but another doctor told me is the size of a lemon,

based on MRI pictures. I thought it would be smaller, about the size of a

golf ball. A few doctors have remarked to me that my fibroid is quite

large, but compared to some of the women in this group, 5 cm is on the small

side. Maybe another diagnostic hysteroscopy would clear this up. Therese

Therese,

get a copy of the MRI report.In reports they don't refer to fruits or various

balls used in sports.

5 cms is about 2 inches.Your previous post refers to a TENNIS ball-but even a

golf ball isn't 2 " in

diameter and lemons are even less standard.

Compared to anyone 2 " is not big,but in a sub-mucosal you don't always need much

to have a problem.

What is hysteroscopic resection? How is it different from myomectomy?

I am having D & C on 12/17, because of very heavy bleeding and hopefully the dr.

can visualize to see if the fibroid(s) is cause of problem. I will go to the

doctor on 12/14. Any suggestions of questions to ask, things to be aware of?

can visualize to see if the fibroid(s) is cause of problem. I will go to the

doctor on 12/14. Any suggestions of questions to ask, things to be aware of?

Hysteroscopic resection is a way of doing a myomectomy

of submucuousal fibroids (fibroids in the uterine

cavity) The doctor is able to insert a cutting tool

through the hysteroscope and remove the fibroid

without making any incisions. Here is a link that

Heidi,

I don't mean to sound alarming, but any doctor that tells you up front

that you may end up with a hysterectomy as opposed to the myomectomy you

thought you were getting would scare the living daylights out of me.

Does the doctor suspect cancer? If not, there is no reason for you to

have a hysterectomy. In this situation, you are no longer in control.

You will have no idea just what organs you will wake up with.

I am having a resection done January 17th. I have two

fibroids: a 3cm submucousal and a 2.5 cm intramural.

My main symptom is heavy bleeding and the doctor feels

that the 3cm fibroid is to blame. Since the fibroid

is so small no lupron was suggested to me.

I had a hysterscopic resection of my fibroid, submucal, 3 cm. My symptoms

were different from yours--I had it removed to resolve my infertility. We

just finished ovulation induction, so we'll see if the fibroid removal

resolved my symptoms with a successful pregnancy!

In addition to the fibroid, I had a lot of scar tissue removed and some endo.

All this conspired to cause incredibly painful periods, lots of clots and

bleeding over about 5 days. The procedures-laparascopy, hsysterscopy and d

and c, were done in a Brooklyn hospital near where I live.
