Guest guest
, I would give my child hearing if he/she were born deaf. Perhaps Mark would too. BUT there are born deaf adults with born deaf children who will not give their children hearing if they could. Personally, I think it's crazy but they don't see deafness as a disability. Who am I to dictate what they do with their lives and the lives of their children? I can see their arguement and I don't feel this is child abuse (although you can present a good arguement for it!). ---------- From: and Christi Waldrip Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2000 3:18 AM To: NF2_Crewegroups Subject: Re: IMPLANTS ! Mark, if you had a kid who was born deaf, and you had the chance to give the child hearing, are you telling me you wouldn't?
Guest guest
We are all born without the power to talk, so are parents not supposed to teach us to talk? I also have watched programmes on T.V. a born deaf child has had the Cochlea switched on, and the look of joy and surprise at being able to her brings tears to so many of us. The more of us that are fitted with Implants, the more feedback the manufactures get, thus as with the ABI, later models are much better than the early ones. Just think of speech processing on computers, years ago when Star Trek was 1st released people thought it a miracle that would never happen, to be able to talk to a computer, and now every person has the ability to be able to do just that, those who have been taught to speak that is! So I say, please don't try force any parents in either direction, or influence them in any way, a family is a unit which no outsider should try to control. 2 pennies from Re: IMPLANTS ! > HEAR, HEAR, MARK!
