Pal and Prof. Ranjan Mitter Date : 1 May 2006 to 7 May 2006 Venue: IIMC Campus, Joka Fees: Rs. 30,000 INR Program Details: THEMATIC EXPOSITION Managerial Skills, in the past several decades, has often been thought to have become a fiefdom of business enterprises. Yet, society, which is a far bigger entity than business, is in no less a need for managerial skills. The burning problems of our country is not how many luxury sedans are owned per capita but whether the basic necessities and infrastructure are accessible to the vast population. The situation in many sectors is menacing. Yes, we have attained self-sufficiency in food, but many in our country still cannot access good education and health care. Our country today has one of the largest HIV/AIDS affected people in the world and their population is growing. Government, CBOs, NGOs, International funding organizations are all trying to address this huge and growing problem. This too is a problem of management and managerial skills are needed among those who are working hard to stem the tide. PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES The objective of this training programme is to enhance and strengthen the management skills of Programme Managers, Programme Planners, co-ordinators and senior functionaries working in the area of Community and Sexual Health and HIV/AIDS. These skills will allow participants to effectively plan, implement and evaluate programmes and activities. PROGRAMME CONTENT The areas of focus will be MANAGERIAL & ORGANISATIONAL EFFECTIVENESS i) a) Communication Skills Interpersonal Communication Skills ii) a) Presentation Skills Negotiation Skills iii) Conflict Management iv) Counseling Relationship v) a) Stress Management Methods of Coping with Stress ORGANISATIONAL SYSTEMS • Finance i) Accounting Intricacies in Non-Profit Organisations / NGOs ii) Cost Management iii) Cost Control and Cost Effectiveness Analysis • MIS i) Concepts – Relevant to Non-Profit Organisations / NGOs ii) Physical Financial Linkages iii) Designing MIS iv) Operating MIS v) MIS for Project Implementation & Monitoring • Budgeting & Budgetary Control i) Budgeting Process ii) Budgetary Control, iii) New Developments like Performance Budgeting , Zero Base Budgeting, etc. PROJECT MANAGEMENT i) Project Cycle – linkages between Input-Process- Output-Outcome- Impact (IPOOI) & new concepts like : LOG FRAME, SMART, etc. ii) Project Identification (including need analysis & priority ranking) iii) Project Formulation / Development (with Project Proposal / Project Report) iv) Project Appraisal (including funding aspect) v) Project Implementation, Monitoring & Evaluation vi) Post Implementation Review PEDAGOGY The training programme will be participatory and interactive. Three main approaches will be employed to conduct the programme. 1) Concept sessions, discussions and presentations, 2) Case discussions and 3) group work PROGRAMME DURATION The training programme will be held at Management Centre for Human Values (MCHV) Seminarium at IIM Calcutta, Joka campus. Classes will be held from 9-30 am to 5-30 pm wth a lunch break and two tea breaks thrown in. Participants will be accommodated in Tata Hall and/or other campus accomodation. The programme will be strictly residential. PROGRAMME FEES The consolidated fee of Rs. 28,000/- includes tuition, reading materials and board and lodging. THE FACULTY The Jt. Programme Director, Prof. Ranjan Mitter, has an abiding interest in Management of NGOs and spends a lot of his professional and personal time in such pursuits. The faculty will be mostly from the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM, Calcutta) but will also include good guest faculty wherever the need arises. Prof. Manabendra N. Pal is an expert in Project Management and has held various decorative positions in the Institute, the latest being Chairman (CMDP).
