Guest guest
Heh, I love the you share with me and I'll share with you thing...GREAT idea.... Does anyone know the laws about adding extracurricular activities > to the school IEP and using school equipment outside the school walls? > Michele, That is so exciting to hear about Aubrie being in dance! Are you talking about wanting to use the school FM? We had that discussion with our school (you know I have had them all). had some auditory training goals and the FM was important with that goal (along with other goals). The school was not going to allow me to use their FM at home. 's IEP also listed that she must wear hearing aids while at school. So, I used this approach. Learning does not end for our kids with the last school bell. Other children bring home school owned books to do homework, so should be allowed to use the FM system to continue working on her IEP goals at home. They wanted to snort about that because of the cost difference of a FM vs a school book. So, the next option for them was this. If they were not willing to " share " their equipment between school and home, than I would be forced to do the same. I would not be able to " share " the use of 's hearing aids between home and school. Anything in the IEP, the school is to provide and this also meant the hearing aids if I was not going to provide them. My attorney was behind me 100% in getting the FM system for home use and said that they could and should be making it available for home use and if they didn't, I could make them purchase hearing aids as it was written in the IEP. After the school thought about it (and I'm sure they checked with their attorney), the FM system started coming home for our use. Shortly after that, we changed 's hearing aids and at the same time, got her the FM system. If you had any waiver or insurance help pay for the hearing aids, they might also purchase an FM for your use. It's something to check into.
