Wanted Translators for HIV/AIDS Media Manual

The Thomson Foundation is in the process of producing the Media Manual on

HIV/AIDS, India, 2007, under its project ‘The EU-India Media Initiative on

HIV/AIDS’.

We are looking for qualified persons to translate this manual into four Indian

languages – Hindi, Tamil, Marathi and Bengali.

We are looking for:

Excellent knowledge and experience of HIV/AIDS-related language and issues and

the ability to express that knowledge in the Indian language

Excellent command over both English and the language into which translation will

take place

Ability to translate terms and concepts into the Indian language and/or find

appropriate terminology where none exists

Ability to proofread the manuscript and produce an error-free final product

Ability to work and coordinate over email, including familiarity with fonts and

Adobe Acrobat files, etc

The 2005 edition of the Media Manual is available online for reference at:

www.aidsandmedia.net/manual.htm The 2007 edition will be broadly similar but

significantly updated and reformatted.

The text of the Manual is expected to be approximately 15,000 words. The

translation work will include all textual material, including photo captions,

etc.

The time available for translators to complete their first error-free draft will

be 7-10 days, and this working period will fall some time in the first three

weeks of November, 2006. Deadlines will be tight and non-negotiable, so please

apply only if you can put in the significant effort required within the

specified time-frame. Compensation will match the best in the market, but there

will be penalties for not meeting mutually agreed deadlines.

If this interests you and you meet the time, knowledge and skill parameters,

kindly send an email to info@... specifying “translator -

(language)” in the subject line.

Please give the following information: 1. Name; 2. Full contact details (daytime

and personal); 3. Qualifications and experience, with specific reference to

HIV/AIDS and translation work; 4. Whether you specifically meet all the

requirements above; 5. Any other factors that exceptionally qualify you for the

task at hand; and, 6. Rate expected
