On 10th of July 2006, Eighteen Community Based Organizations (CBOs) working by

and for males who have sex with males (MSM) with regard to HIV/AIDS and having

about 200,000 MSM outreach base, from the three regions of Andhra Pradesh

(Telangana, Rayalseema & Costal Andhra) came together at Hotel Anmol

International, Nampally, Hyderabad and formed AMMA (Andhra Pradesh Male

Minorities Association).

AMMA would be providing technical and institutional support to MSM

collectivities, groups and networks in Andhra Pradesh to empower them to develop

& strengthen their own sexual health services. It will also advocate on social

justice and human rights concerns of MSM and foster cooperation, understanding

and support between organisations developing responses to STI/HIV/AIDS and

sexual health needs of males who have sex with males and those with other

constituencies in Andhra Pradesh.

The first elected 09 board members for the three regions of AMMA would be

presenting their charter of demands to the Health Minister, Government of Andhra

Pradesh and discuss the problems and concerns of the community with the media

for better understanding of the HIV scenario of the community in Andhra Pradesh.
