Don,

Welcome to the group. I remember you and your wife from Winston Salem. I

hate to break the news to you like this, but she is a whole lot better

looking than you are!

My coughing started before any changes in my voice or swallowing. With

minor exceptions my dry unproductive cough ended when my Internist started

me on Zantac 150 mg 2x/day for acid reflux. I now sometimes have a

productive cough when I first get up. I blame that on smoking for so long I

probably destroyed the cilia in my bronchia.

For a long time, when I first got out of bed I would cough, blow my nose,

cough, blow my nose - 12 to 20 times EVERY morning. I tried several

medications including a couple of different nasal sprays, but none of them

worked. My Dr started me on Profen Forte by IVAX Laboratories (One tablet

in the evening - each contains 90 mg of Pseudophedrine HCL & 800 mg of

Gualfenesin) a couple of weeks ago. I now blow my nose on average once a

morning. Miracles do happen.

I also had a septoplasty operation on my nose a couple of months ago. I

could sleep only on one side. Every time I rolled over, my nose would stop

up and I couldn't breathe. Now both nostrils stay open all night no matter

my position. Neal doesn't complain about my snoring nearly as much as she

used to. Snoring is the only operative word in that sentence, if you get my

drift.

Just hang in there. We'll have you fixed up in no time.

Vaughn

,

My husband is sensitive to newspaper print. He says the smell makes him sick to his stomach. (The actual newspaper content makes me sick...but that is another story ).

Newspapers have triggered my coughing for a long time, also

magazines and especially ads from department stores sent in the mail

with perfume samples inside of them. Yuk. Some WalMarts have been

worse than others for me. The one in Danville, IL was really bad

one day last year near the produce department, so I figured there

must have been mold in those large containers where they had the

melons or else the potato bins. Today we had to keep the windows in

the car closed on the North Shore because the Keave odor (a tree or

bush they use similar to mesquite for grilling) made it hard for me

to breathe. That was also one reason I moved away from HI in 95.
