Guest guest
Hi Everyone, I know this subject has been talked about before but, I have a couple of questions anyway. Caitlin is now 4 years old and I have been trying to find a special seat for caitlin so that she could sit on the potty. Any ideas? Caitlin doesn't sit up very well (only when she wants too) so i need something that will support her from the sides. I have talked to the doctors and they say it is okay for her to still be in diapers but.... when she is wet or worse has a dirty diaper she wants to play with it. ACK!! Any ideas would be really appreciated. Kristal mom to , Caitlin (4 CHARGE) and Ian ---------------------------------
Guest guest
Since my child is almost 6 and still in diapers I have no magic answers for the control part. We did get a special highchair made through the adaptation folks at DDD. They have volunteers who make things and you pay basically for materials. It was higher off the ground than a regular potty chair, to fit the size of a 4 year old, not a 1 year old. It has a back rest and arm rests, then 4 pieces of wood that hold the actual potty chair that he sits on. I just lift that part off to empty (when we are so lucky) and to clean. Guest guest
Department of Developmental Disabilities. I do not know if every state has this " adaptation station " . You can order special potties from companies that make furniture for preschools etc..., but is is very pricey. ---------- > >To: <CHARGE > >Subject: RE: potty training >Date: Tue, Jun 11, 2002, 9:43 AM > > What does DDD stand for? > > potty training >>Date: Tue, Jun 11, 2002, 8:29 AM >> > >> >> Hi Everyone, >> >> I know this subject has been talked about before but, I have a couple of >> questions anyway. >> >> Caitlin is now 4 years old and I have been trying to find a special seat >> for caitlin so that she could sit on the potty. Guest guest
An idea is to find the item for purchase in a catalog or online, then find a handy person who can help you build something similar. If you are very lucky, a therapist will be able to help with the construction of something. At one point, Aubrie needed a corner chair. We knew it was just a temporary thing until she could sit unassisted. However, we also knew that the process of ordering one through the Early Intervention system would take so long that she'd outgrow the need before it arrived. I " built " one out of a refrigerator box that did the job very nicely for the time we needed it. Guest guest
Hi Kristal, Would Caitlin manage on the toilet instead of the potty? 's mum managed to obtain (from our local social services)a special sort of seat that sits on top of the toilet, which has a back to it and arms for to rest her arms on which also helps with balance. She looks like a queen on her throne and is quite happy to sit there. Hope you can find something suitable. Guest guest
Hi, I have tried setting Caitlin on the toliet but so far it hasnt worked.. I think I am going to like suggested.. look in a few catalogs and have someone modify it to what she needs.. I dont know about the rest of you but.. some of the things that the therapy catalogs offer are scary looking. They offered me a " special stroller " for Caitlin.. Holy cow! The thing was so ugly..and so bulky it wasnt even worth it. Thanks for all the responses! Guest guest
I'm looking for some potty training help. We potty trainied Bryce this summer (he is 5) and he got the peepee thing in 2 days. He has not had an accident since. BUT, he could care less about pooping in his pants. It just doesn't bother him. Bryce was tube fed for 4 years and never had normal stools during that time. They were always very runny due to all the fluid. HE has been an oral eater for about a year now and we still have trouble in that department but it is better. Now he seems to be sensitive to juice and sugar so we are trying to cut that out. Anyway, that is all to say that he hasn't had the normal experiences with this bodily function. I don't know if that is the problem or it is more of a sensory issue and he just doesn't care about having dirty pants. (I sure do!) Anyone have any advice for me? Guest guest
Deedee, this may not come as any help, or comfort, but is almost nine, and still wears diapers.I guess FORTUNA for us, he is still so small, he can wear the stage 4 huggies, and there also supplied free of charge to us as has been since he was 6 months old, through his medicaid waiver program through C>A>P>S But on the other hand, it is a big hastle to him, us, and the school, right now he has a one on one assistant to help him with things at school, but I want him to become more independent, so, the potty training thing is NOT going well, he has never had a big desire to use the big pot, but he will occasionally pee-pee in the pot at a restaurant, but hardly ever at home. And he has NEVER pooped in the pot, always in his pants, and believe me 9 yr old " poop " , is not a happy sight when your running late for an appointment, or already at the appointment! But the doctors have all said there is no set TEST to see if he can physically do it or not, I guess he will when he wants to, OR maybe not>?? Just another unknown in the world of CHARGE. sorry I couldn't be more help, keep the faith Isley Mom, of 81/2 CHARGer, and Josh 15 ---- Original Message ----- From: JDDUNGETHEIM749@... Guest guest
Hi, my son took forever to potty train with bm's, he TOTALLY knew when he had to go, because he would wait until he had his pull-up on at nap time to go. I finally stopped putting on the pull-ups and if he did it in his pants HE had to help clean it up. wasn't easy on him or me, but it worked--he wasn't getting one over on me anymore--it was his responsability. don't know if it will work for you, but thought I'd offer what did for us. good luck--it's not fun but worth it in the long run. mom to timmy 7 ChARGE, keegan 4.5, and liam 2 on the 10th, wife to pat Re: potty training > I'm looking for some potty training help.
