Finding a good Doctor--JAANA and everyone

Hi Jaana, my dear friend--

I just wanted to maybe offer some advice in you doctor search. If

you can't find exactly the kind of doc you are looking for, I

actually think it would be better for you to find a good general

practitioner who is recommended well by other people and has a

compassionate reputation.

A general practioner can prescribe you the same meds and give you a

lot of similar care to the specialists, although maybe not to the

same degree. In my experience, if you can find a compassionate

doctor who is willing to listen and help, then you have a gold mine,

no matter the specialty. For a long time, I couldn't find a

specialist, but my GP was so great. Whenever I did research or

found something that might work, we talked about it and often tried

it. She believed my pain and other complaints and worked hard to

get me whatever attention I needed. She would refer me to someone

for the trigger point injections, but she was like my " captain " of

my medical team and still is even though now I have all these

specialists. because, I know that she has my best interests at

heart, and I can trust her.

So, even if you can't find a pain specialist, start looking for a

general practioner that is recommended highly and well liked by

people. Even if he or she doesn't know a lot about FM, if you do

some research on your own about your specific concerns and discuss

it with her, she will probably be happy to work with you in getting

what you need. Doctors that care are also interested in learning,

even from their patients.

I'M STUCK W/ " Dr. Death " !!! (i found out just recently that my pain

doc has a nickname around here: " Dr. Death " .... THAT is scary.)
