I have a new client who has had bilateral mastectomies and chemo last year and after initially losing some weight, is now is struggling with weight gain. She is going to the gym and working out, but is still struggling. Of course I will work with her kcal needs and see what her intake is like, but is there a connection between her treatment and the gain?? Estrogen? Meds? I rarely see this type of patient so any useful information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! J. Guest guest
, I had a mastectomy in July 2008. I then had chemo (August 2008 - January 2009). My weight gain began during chemo which I attributed to the large doses of steroids that I was on. I did gain some after chemo but after about six months hit a plateau. It wasn't until a year or so later that I gradually began to loose weight through a diet/exercise combination. I'm still battling it however had other things thrown in the mix such as a hip replacement earlier this year. I have always wondered how much the stress of my diagnosis affected my weight but really can't answer that. Unfortunately the only thing I found that works is to keep going and realize that this is a very slow process. If you need any other info, don't hesitate to e-mail me privately. Anne Anne G.
