Guest guest
So Sol, how DO we tell? I HAVE FOUND THIS THREAD INTERESTING. Oops, sorry for the caps. > Sol,>> being a C282Y heterozygyte I share your view, and Usually simplify it to people who load iron or have an active loading mechanism need ferritin lower, people who don't load iron / don't have active iron loading mechanisms from food etc need higher ferritin readings to work properly with thyroid.> But the trick is to know if you are an iron loader or not, and ferritin alone doesn't tell that even when ferritin is low. That is all I'm saying, ferritin alone isn't safe to rely on. I have 150 with a reference of 80-155 mcg. So is that high? my zinc 120 (60-120mcg) ferritine 58.4 (10-291 ng) vit b 12 252 (211-911) I have started taking vit b 12 and iron because they seem low. But what can i do about my high copper , if you think it is high.ù ta berny > > >

Cat, Let me see if I understand correctly---you saying the ferritin goes down first before iron is (hopefully) pulled from body storage in organs and other tissues? So iron would be eventually removed from tissue storage in the liver or thyroid or whatever and used to replace the stores in ferritin, once ferritin is lowered enough? But ferritin goes down first? That is how I thought it is supposed to happen. If my understanding is correct it makes me feel better about not being able to get ferritin re-tested as frequently as I had hoped to do. It feels inadequate to only be able to test ferritin and iron panel once a year. thanks, sol
