Guest guest
Dear Forum, Regarding the article by Saritha Rai from TIME Magazine entitled " Sex, Money and Power in India, " posted on eFORUM recently. (http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1172244,00.html) Where can we find this data that proves women's employment increases risk of HIV infection? It is not available on the NIH website. It seems quite counterintuitive and detrimental to the crucial work to empower women to decrease rates of HIV infection, especially in India where 62% of new infections occur among women. ( " What they've discovered is that in that group, employment and the extra income it provides, rather than empowering women, puts them at greater risk of physical violence and contracting HIV. " ) Thank you, Joya Banerjee Program Coordinator Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS 211 East 43rd Street, Suite 905 New York, NY 10017 (212) 661-6111 e-MAIL: joya@... www.youthaidscoalition.org
