126 for a fasting glucose is not too bad really. I know it puts you in the

diabetic catagory, but please don't ignore diabetes if you have it and just blow

it off. Yours sounds very controllable if you do have it with a fasting 126. My

SIL chose to ignore hers and is now a type I diabetic on insulin many times a

day and could have delayed this by many years had she listened to her doctors

and taken her pills and followed her diet. I feel sorry for her, but she did

bring it on herself by choosing to throw out all her diabetic meds and not see

her doctor for six months. she finally started having trouble seeing and ended

up back at the doctor's and realizing what she had done is now a type I diabetic

like I said. What a shame huh? Don't do what she did. Follow your doctor's

recommendations now. Good luck.

Tracie.

P.S. I have been diabetic about a year now and my sugars are remaining stable

on my medication and I have not even needed an increase in the pills. As a

matter of fact they have thought about cutting down my pills if I keep doing so

well. So it is not all bad.

Thanks all. And not to worry...I'm an " attack the enemy as soon as you

see their hats " kind of person! I'm pretty pro-active. Just learning

all I can and waiting for my pcp appointment to get here so we can

start doing whatever needs doing.

Tracie,

You're giving very good advice for anyone to follow if they're

diabetic. I have a sister-in-law who just ignored her diabetes and

didn't try to control it, and now she has two half feet. She also had

an episode in which she lost her sight.

I do want to clear up one thing, though. Type 1 diabetes is an entirely

different disease from type 2. Type 1 is an autoimmune disease, caused

when the body's immune system attacks the beta cells in the pancreas

that produce insulin. In that respect, it is like RA. Many type 2's get

to the point that they have to have insulin, but then they are

insulin-dependent type 2's, not type 1's.

I'm glad that you are able to control your diabetes. I always say that

of the diseases that I have, diabetes is my favorite, because there are

measures that I can take to make it better. It's hard to do that with

RA.

Good for you, Kim. You'll do fine if you do have diabetes.
