Guest guest
Hi I have this type of reaction with progesterone also. I cannot tolerate it. Or at least I couldn't when I tried it last. I do really well on estriol but have to quit because I think it aggravates the RT3. I wonder if all hormone excess does this? Some people think that certain women are allergic to progesterone What type of fluid retention do you get?

It may be coincidence, but that is when my problem started and I should have been free of RT3 at that time. About a week after I started it I got headache, tension in my neck and pain in hip joints at night. Plus this big edema problem which blossomed into elevated BP. Guest guest
Every cell in my body swells, but mostly I feel it in the eyes, can hardly see to read, and get headaches. Ankles swell if on my feet too much and breathing gets " crackly " at night, I have to sleep elevated. This RT3 has been the worst thing I've ever been through! And, last fall, when I had been on Progesterone from another Doctor who didn't know what she was doing, my levels were so high, they were out of the reference range. So I guess I won't be taking it any more! I'm taking a very small amount of estriol/estradiol, but didn't get any adverse symptoms when I added it back in. I will watch it though. This is really a balancing act, isn't it? Hugs, > > Hi > I have this type of reaction with progesterone also. I cannot tolerate it. Or at least I couldn't when I tried it last. Guest guest
Hi, Bill, Last fall, I started on Florinef, as testing revealed that my body made " zero " Aldosterone. I had a really positive effect from it and still believe that I need it. When I tried to back off just 1/4 of a pill, very violent muscle spasms returned. And, when I found out about high RT3, my Ferritin was only 19, so I believe that was my problem and am working on that. Slow going! What kicked me into the high RT3 was taking 1 little drop of iodine in a glass of water! All the symptoms started then. Of course, I had been on Syncrap for 17 years, then had some pretty serious stress. I really appreciate your advice, though, I'll keep it in mind. Certainly appreciate any input! Thank you! >> > Progesterone is a precursor to aldosterone, > and it is quite possible that your symptoms > were caused by excessive aldosterone. > > ( Not related to RT3. ) > > > Bill > > > > > > > --- >

Guest guest
It is definitely a delicate balance. I also think certain " types " are more sensitive to progesterone in general. I would be curious if most people on this board were those types. I hear a lot about estrogen dominance but progesterone sensitivity has always been my problem. Are you low in progesterone? Is that why you were taking it? I get terrible swellin behind the brows. I used to think it was sinus, then migraines. My face ends up looking a bit cavewomanish sometimes when it is really bad. I had this when I tried progesterone, but just the opposite with estriol. Strange

Guest guest
Hi , Just a thought as I was reading through this. I remember you saying when you bumped up Florinef beyond the two tabs up to three, the edema kicked in again and your blood pressure went up, etc. If progesterone gets converted into aldosterone I wonder if it tips the scales for you kind of like when you added the extra Florinef? I don't know but thought I would mention it. I think I have needed extra aldosterone for so long and it's probably why progesterone was somewhat helpful in the past. Now that I am on Florinef I wonder if I will be able to use it again. hugs, > > Hi, Bill, > > Last fall, I started on Florinef, as testing revealed that my body made " zero " Aldosterone. Guest guest
Yes, you're right, the swelling of the eyes, behind the brows is horrible and I hadn't thought about it, but it does look a bit " cavewomanish " ! Very strange! When I started on Progesterone last year, I was going to a Doctor who really didn't know what she was doing with bioidentical hormones. I began the bioident hormone treatment and then found out about the cortisol connection. Then, found Janie's book, STTM, and this group and realized the thyroid connection with T4 only meds. But I was on Progesterone for quite some time, found a new Doc who is wonderful, and she wanted a new test and that was the one that came back with my progresterone levels off the scale of the range (!!!). I probably should re-test to see where it is now, but clearly, I don't need it. We're definitely in the " Guinea Pigs R Us " group, like Val always says! LOL. Guest guest
Dorothy, Yes, the headaches have always been a problem for me, but I think they're more related to the low Ferritin in my case. Found some dessicated liver tablets to take to help get the Ferritin up. Now that you mention it, I've had a lot of muscular pain in the low hip and groin area, too. I sure hope we all get balanced soon! Hugs, > > > > I have this type of reaction with progesterone also. I cannot tolerate it. Guest guest
, Hmmmm.... good point! I read that, too, but didn't make the connection. The brain fog is unreal, it's like the information is in my brain, but I can't access it!!! Then it may come out later ?!? Thanks for your helpful hint. And yes, if you can, you may want to hold off on re-starting progresterone as well. Or proceed very cautiously! I'm with you, though, I know I really needed the Florinef! Guest guest
Every day I have to say, this group is a Godsend! I didn't understand my facial swelling but after the threads started about progesterone, I stopped using my cream to just see what the result might be. Very little facial edema today. Could be a coincidence, but I am going to just moniter for a while. I know all of my hormones are a mess and will be starting Isocort tomorrow to see what it may do. At this point, I don't see how I could feel any worse. Fat, going bald, live in a fog that amuses my children, NO ENERGY, generalized pain, insomnia, zero libido, etc, etc. etc. I will be leaning on you guys for advice and direction now that I think I see the right road. Guest guest
I have read that in perimenopause years the hormones can jump around a lot, so even blood tests might not be that reliable. It seems like a lot of people who have the RT3 problem have some overarching metabolic/hormonal problem which makes us a lot more sensitive to stuff other people wouldn't be sensitive to. Yeah, the swollen brow. Ugh. Is it a thyroid thing? Or aldosterone? I wish I knew. The only thing that helps me is to take a strong decongestant with psuedoephedrine, which makes me think in my case at least it is a vascular issue. I have raynaud's, too...the list goes on. I hope we both get it all sorted out!!

Guest guest
This is interesting because I tested really high for aldosterone (the only high thing in my adrenal test!) and I wonder if this is why I cannot tolerate progesterone. I have terrible inflammation and I dread the second half of my cycle because of this. Is there a way to lower aldosterone? I take a little sea salt water daily now.
