Guest guest
Larry, I applied for SSD they told me I had to be out of work 6 months before I could apply. I applied after the six months got all my paper work in. They ask for all your doctors names and they send questioners to them. It took me two tries and I final got it after another three or four months. I was told I had to wait a full year before Medicare would take effect. Luckily I was covered under my husband policy at his work. You get Medicare right away if you have ALS if I not mistaken. .. Hope you get it on the first try. Your doctors should stress that PLS cannot be cured (right now anyway) its how they word their dx of you. On my second try I had a patient advocate group help us. I'm sure that helped us...................Good luck............Flora
Guest guest
Pat, that was me, I'm Donna, but I'm from Conover, NC. I emailed Don the information. I had to call the main SS office to get it because my disability officer told me there was no such bill. Indeed there is an the main office sent it to him. If you want me to email it to you just let me know. They can argue all they want, but the bill still passed and you are intitled. Guest guest
PLSers I assume that SSD is the same Social Security Disability that I am receiving from the federal goverment in good old US of A. You would think that federal rules and regulations would be the same in all states. I left work on PLS caused disability on March 1, 2002. I applied for SSD the very next week with a very helpful woman in the local SS branch office. At the time I was collecting short term disability through a private policy. The SS office informed me that I would not be eligible for SSD until my fifth month of disability, but that it was important to file as soon as posible to clear the paperwork. I have recieved SSD payments since August 2002. They pay for Aug in Sept and Sept in Oct. While I was in the SS office (2 weeks out of work) this same woman signed me up for SSI (supplemental income) and medicare. I am inelligible for SSI due to my private LTD policy which kicked in after 6 months, but I received my medicare card in September. I do not need it due to my wife's insurance plan, but I have it if I need it. I don't believe that I shorted the system or anything. I believe that people are getting the run around. Yes you need to stay on top of the paperwork, but since it was my only job, I did it very well. You are not commited to use the same clerk or even the same office, if you can't get anywhere try another office. Pay attention to what D says about how your private LTD policy is paid. My LTD is fully taxable because it was paid for with pre-tax income. That is a lot of money out of pocket. Hope this clears the way for some of you. Guest guest
I went to talk to a lawyer this morning about appealing. She said she'd about guarantee we'd end up seeing a judge, and then there would be a better than 50/50% chance of winning. She said to get as many of my doctors to put down in the records that I can't sit for extended periods of time, and I can't stand either. I got the idea she felt that it might help that I have recently been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I'm supposed to keep track of how long it takes me to do stuff because they will ask--and to be very specific, like don't say "yes, I do work some." Let them know that it is often during their naptime when I can sit, etc. I'm supposed to go back next week. She doesn't get anything unless we win. Any helpful hints from those who have "been there?"
