in NY) at the end of April. I will be 24 weeks pregnant at that time.

I have calls in to my doctors, but was wondering if any of you have

had experience with traveling at this point in a high risk pregnancy

Tara -- well, I'll go if you can't! I just love S.D., specially in

the spring!

Here's my two cents, FWIW:

My brothers were both married on consecutive Saturdays when I was

31/32 weeks -- we needed to drive due to logistics, and the first

location was 12 hours away! Rather than make 2 trips, we worked them

both into one long trip. Everything was fine (we had many, many pee-

pee stops!), but I did not know I was UD. I don't know if I would

have done it! I did fly from Michigan to Virginia around 24 weeks

for bridal showers; again, I didn't know about my UD. A non-MA

friend of mine even went to Italy when she was about 5 1/2 months pg

with twins!

I would go with my gut and the doctors' recommendations. Travel

doesn't mean something will go wrong -- unless you want to para-sail

or water ski! And you would be in a metro area with good medical

care available if needed. You could ask your doc for the name of

someone out there if you needed it. I hope you can go -- time alone

with DH will become a scarce commodity!

Take care -- Kate, UD, ttc for #2

Thanks Kate for the input :) Yeah - not only would it be a great

trip - but he won it in a sales contest with his company. SO - it's

luxury all the way and all expenses paid! I'd hate to give it up :)DH

is so sweet - he said if I can't go, he won't go. I told him he could

take someone else (no women of course :). I think he feels that way

because we happened to be in San Diego last spring :)

The peri called back and said it's up to my OB. So, we'll see what

they say. They usually do call backs late in the day.

I don't plan to parasail or do anything very active. Just some

relaxation with hubby - and some nice parties with his colleagues -

will be fun enough for me!

Tara,

Oh boy, please believe that I'm not trying to scare you. During my last

pregnancy I had the opportunity to go on a cruise to the Virgin Islands at

25 weeks. (I hate telling this story because I feel like such an idiot.)

During this pregnancy I knew that I had a BU, but my OB didn't classify me

as high risk and my pregnancy was treated as " normal " in every way. I

didn't have any signs of preterm labor, except perhaps more braxton hick

contractions than the norm, but my OB kept telling me they were very normal.

My heart and intuition were yelling " don't go " , but I didn't want to let my

husband down, so off we went. As you can guess, I began to have severe

cramps on the third day and was taken to the primitive medical facility on

the island of Tortola. I was examined with a flashlight and given the only

medication they had available to stop contractions - a medication that was

used in the U.S. decades ago. To make a long story short, I lied my way on

to a plane knowing that my baby's only hope was to get off that island.

Geneva was born less than 1 hour of the plane touching down in Seattle at 26

weeks.

Since you are traveling inside the U.S., your situation is totally

different. Excellent medical care is available in San Diego should you have

any problems. I would say the most important thing is to listen to your

heart and intuition. If you go, know where you need to go if you have any

PTL signs. Have you had your cervix checked? I know I would feel better

about going if I knew my cervix was still closed and I wasn't have any

contractions.

Good luck making your decision. Remember to listen to your intuition and

heart.

Hey there,

I'm new to this group (wish I had known about it when

I got pg), but I too am a BU (and have a 9 mo.

daughter). I traveled when I was 16+ wks. with no

trouble and would have likely traveled later in the pg

had I the opportunity...as all my check-ups indicated

no problems & I felt great. I think you should

definitely talk with your Dr. and you'll likely have

to make the call closer to the travel date (based on

how you're feeling/progressing). FYI, I carried 40+

wks when Emma decided to come on down...didn't flip

until 38th wk...but delivered naturally without any

complications. Good Luck!

Gosh, that story scares me and I'm not even pg!! LOL. DH and I were in the

Virgin Islands last year. It is VERY primitive for medical care. It seemed

so great that a lot of Americans had quit their jobs to live a simpler life

down there. However, right before our trip DH's father was diagnosed with

cancer and we had a couple of scares in the ICU before our trip. We both

couldn't imagine what we would do if were critically injured or sick and lived

in the Virgin Islands - I'm sure we'd be on the first plane back home.

I'm so glad that your daughter was ok! That must have been horribly

frightening.

Tara-

Glad to hear you are well- but busy...... Of course- I asked my OB

the same thing yesterday (we are always on the same wavelength)- we

have a wedding in Tampa on March 9th- of course living in GA, we can

drive there- the Dr said it is ok-- at that point I will be almost

22 weeks- she said to make it the last trip- not knowing what could

come about with the BU- I had my cervix checked yesterday, and the

peri says it looks fine, and in the US, he said the baby has plenty

of room, and he doesn' foresee any problems- so.......see what your

Ob says- and like some of the others said, go with your gut- if you

feel good, go- I would find the nearest hosp- once you get there-

just in case- and they say get up and walk around a lot on the plane

(every few hours) and don't overdo it while you are there!!! congrats

to your DH, obviously doing a great job!!!!!!
