Martha,

We have seen a Urologist at New England Medical Center. His name is

Klauber. We like him, but as I have said we are changing pedis so we will be

at Children's Hospital Boston. I spoke with our old pediatrician and he

suggested a Dr. Bower at Children's. We'll see.

They inject a very small amount of radioactive material into the child. Then

you wait about an hour and come back. The child needs to lay still in a

smaller scale version of CT-scan. The machine rotates around the child and

it takes approximately 1/2 hour. Sedation may be necessary.

For we were able to humor him with a video. The hardest part for him,

was keeping his arms up over his head. He could move them a little but not

much. I held his hands to help to remind him to stay still.

Sorry to ask this but I am not sure what a DMSA is. We have had so much done

with and I do not remember this test. Could you explain this to me.

Thanks.

mom to almost 8 years.

Re: kidney problems

How would they check for that? He's had a renal ultrasound and a DMSA scan.

His blood pressure, for now is fine (97/65) with him taking the analipril.

I just worry about the potential of needing to remove the kidney. 's

heart is doing well now, but as we all know, anaestesia (sp?) can be a big

concern for our kids.

Thanks.

Janet,

My ped recently recommended Dr. Bower also. Although my daughter has no

functional problems (but has the horseshoe kidney and dual collecting

systems) my ped thought she should have another evaluation done now. She

has only had one UTI. I agree with whoever said that these things need to

be monitored periodically - not just checked once. I guess my daughter's

peditrician thinks the same thing. We have not yet seen Dr. Bower, so I

can't comment further.

Thanks Janet we have had this test done but it was a long time ago before

whole test.

Every time I hear from you on this subject, I ache. is 17, and we

started seeing the same thing about 2 years ago, though we don't see it

often. I just do not understand. The Perkins folks would probably swear that

it has to do with doses of Ativan (perhaps in conjunction with other drugs).

I believe this is true at times (and consider it an unacceptable side

effect!), at others, it happens without any meds. I just do not know what to

do. I really wish professionals on the list would voice any ideas. Martha

Martha,

Well we have NO clue what is causing this either. We saw the

neurologist yesterday and mentioned the wetting again and if he had any

ideas. He took him off Catapres about 2 months ago and we saw NO CHANGE. He

is now weaning him off Depakote and increasing the Wellbutrin. We'll see if

that helps. I am just praying for a miracle here.

Yes this is the only thing that was mentioned to us. But the

Dr didn't really want to commit to that diagnosis either.

Do they call this condition: irritable bladder?

I read a reference to that condition in some immune system stuff I was reading.
