Good question, thanks Melody for the idea.

What are some of the risks that you have taken so far since WL? Sucessful or

not. Would you have taken it before?

Darcy who has to think on this before she can answer.

Going out in public and feeling like I fit in. I know this one is

silly but running!! I LOVE the fact I can run again, not as an

exercise but just at the park with my kids. I can chase them and

have fun.

Hugs!!

> Going out in public and feeling like I fit in.

Isn't this the truth! Our little town up here is very community

oriented. Free public movies on open screens in the park. Every other

weekend we have concerts free in the park...lots of little vender

booths every few weeks..last week belly dancing in the town square.

For years I have avoided these crowds of people. Between the heat, my

inability to walk, and my embarrassment about my body when I put it

in clothes, I became more of a monk than a mother. I would

occasionally participate in these only so my kids had some

socialization but normally couldn't get out of there soon enough. It

would exhaust me.

Lately..especially the last few weeks when I have had no money to

spend, my son and I have spend almost every night just " getting out " .

Walking through the town corridor saying hello to people. Enjoying

music at the brewery. Walking the dog...having an ice cream..yes he

gets Cold Stone and I have frozen yogurt. Its such a treat! Instead

of just shopping, which used to be my favorite way of spending my

free time, Ive opened myself up to just people watching/meeting. And

in this community its quite entertaining! There are all kinds of

freaks up here! (myself included!). Im actually realizing just how

much more of life I have missed. I will never do that again..fat or

not.

Today I have to finish the bathroom, lay linoleum in the laundry room

and get my house picked up before another week of showing. But

tonight...Im getting clean up and off to the park we go for a

jazz/samba music special. I will probably throw out a blanket and

play cards with my son. (My daughter is too good to spend time with

us LOL). Who knows..maybe I will be a freak and get up and dance

there too! dunnoo..but its better than sitting my buns at home..thats

for sure! Someone said to me once weight loss surgery doesn't change

our lives..we do. Thats bullpucky! Weight loss surgery (and resulting

weight loss) took away my need to feel shameful and embarrassed with

myself. These things I put on myself but they were like cuffs on my

wrists holding me back. After years of hearing things like " you have

such a pretty face, " who makes those clothes for you..mammo? " , did

you paint those jeans on?..etc..I found the need to avoid crowds. It

still is uncomfortable to hear people say..Wow you are beautiful. I

just laugh and think YA OK WHATTTTTTTTT EVER!!

Kat aka Nurse Hollywood (as named by one of my psych patients!..seems

fitting LOL)

Risks...

1) Standing up for myself with my mother and being fairly successful

in getting her to realize that I'm not her doormat any longer.

2) Standing up for myself at work and not only getting the respect I

deserve but receiving a promotion that is more in line with my

intelligence and capabilities.

3) Learning how to risk love--real lov--for the first time in many

years. And learning that love isn't painful, deceitful or all

consuming (in a bad way).

4) Risking trust. In myself, in others, and in life in general that

I won't always be let down or hurt.
