Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I am a speech-langague pathology student, at Dalhousie University. I am trying to find out as much information as possible on CHARGE and speech, since there is no research out there in this topic area. Any information or direction would be helpful, since I do not want to miss the most relevant issues in speech for this wonderful wonderful wonderful group of children. Guest guest
Hi , You should speak with the Montreal Oral School for the Deaf. Currently my 5 1/2 year old daughter, Penina, is in full inclusion in 100% French immersion kindergarten in Montreal and she receives services from an itinerant teacher from the MOSD (and also the Montreal Association for the Blind, because there is no deaf-blind agency here). I believe the MOSD had another student with CHARGE Syndrome, but I don't know about her language skills. Please e-mail me privately at Anne, mom of Penina (CHArgE 5 1/2 years old)

Guest guest
, Are you working with or have you spoken to Dr. Kim Blake? She is the director of Undergrad Pediatric Edu @ Dal and has tons of experience with CHARGE. Just to let you know, we will be in Halifax on May 8-9 (surgery though on the 9th) and if you'd like to meet or chat about anything in our experience, I'd be happy to do it. Just let me know... gweir@... Guest guest
Hi , Thanks When I was young my lisp was so bad that people could not understand me. It improved some on its own. I did not get speech therapy unti lage 16 and it didn't help much. At age 20 I got speech therapy again and this time it clicked and I overcame most of my lisp. Guest guest
Kay- It is comforting to know that therapies later in life can still help. Sometimes we focus on the message that early intervention is essential which leads us to think that if we miss the " golden opportunity " that later intervention will be fruitless. I guess there are some things that require maturation and time in order to correct themselves. It's good to know that what we see know in our young children isn't necessarily an indicator of what will be in the future.
