Excedrin is iffy as it contains caffeine which can cause a rebound headache.

Imitrex is the drug of choice for migraines nowadays. Have you had your

hormones checked? I don't know how old you are, but I have found out from

my sister (endocrinologist) that many patients, including another

sister-in-law, finally resolved their migraines by starting progesterone.

Good luck, Barbra Mousouris

> Hi all, I finally found the flax seed oil, but I'm not sure how much to

give timmy. he is about 40 pounds, also any suggestions to hide it in? he

doesn't like ice cream so shakes won't work, no smooth stuff like yogurt or

pudding..only crunchy stuff or milk, but I haven't tasted it, so don't know

if he could tell it was there.

> Also, good news he has been dry at night for three weeks---I'm probably

jinxing myself now. But, I got the waterproof pads and said this is

it--underware at night and you HAVE to get up to go the bathroom. This from

a child whose diaper was soaked through some nights, sleeps all night and is

dry....I don't understand it, but, I'm happy about it.

ears were draining and a gunky green nose--didn't say ears hurt either.

migranes? how do you get over them? I have been having very bad ones and

more frequent. took Excedrine migrane, imatrex and the dr. gave me

but/apap/caf codein cap west, which finally got rid of it. but I was

wondering if anyone used anything that took it away immidiately.

thanks to all responses about the headaches----my hormones are out of wack, but

I take meds to regulate my cycle, so I would think that would help ---I will try

to cut down on sugar I need to start weight watchers anyway and maybe try the

feverfew I think the name was...it's worth a shot.

I just can't have many more days like last week--I couldn't take care of the

kids, and it hurt so bad all I wanted to do was rip my head off and cry.

well, I need to get stuff done, Timmy has the ocularist tomorrow to hopefully

get his new eye, and I have to get the other boys set to stay with g-ma while we

go.

have a good weekend, I'll be scrapbooking, thanks to my wonderful husband, for

24 hours!!!!! of course I'll have to sleep sometime or I'll have a migrane.

You said you are taking meds to regulate your hormones. Are they birth

control pills? I can't take BCP's because they give me migraines at least

once a month if I am on them... also once the doctor gave me progesterone, a

hormone to toughen up my uterus and I immediately got migraines again. Taking

any hormones will give you migraines. mom to CAitlin charge

Hi Debbie, We spoke a while ago and yes does have " permanent ones in "

for almost 7 years now. they are still fine and drain fluid only when

swimming and water seeps thru the earplugs. We are facing the situation now

of whether to try without them. Be aware that Dr. Haddad told me that

sometimes when they have been in for so long the drum does not close

spontaneously so surgery may be needed to close the tiny hole. The permanent

ones were her third or fourth set. It's worth it rather than anesthesia and

more poking in there every year! good luck Marisa

Does anyone get terrible sinus headaches? If so, did they have choanal

atresia? Has anyone had to have a CAT Scan of the sinuses to see if they

needed to be drained?

My son , who is now 5, has terrible headaches. He had bilateral bony

choanal atresia that was fixed 4.5 years ago, but I think he is having

trouble from it. Also, does anyone have permanent ear tubes? It seems like

goes in for ear tubes every year (his 4th set just stopped working),

so the ENT said he will put in permanent one. Does anyone NOT have ear

tubes?

We didn't know for a year, and even then it was a guess.

He would suddenly begin to cry as if in great pain (very atypical for him to

cry). He would begin to gag and retch and vomit through his g-tube until he

would become very limp. If I moved him slightly the crying, gagging,

vomiting would start again. He would also become very pale, and break out

in a cold sweat.

Now when he begins to cry (in just that certain way) I give him advil and it

prevents him from going into the full blown retching cycle.

Since he began getting craniosacral manipulations, he very rarely gets them

anymore. Thank goodness, because they were horrible, coming out of the blue

and lasting up to 36 hours before we knew how to treat them.

When the DO who does the manipualations was gone for 2 months, Dylan had a

migraine everyday of the last 2 weeks before he came back. Once he had his

adjustment, he was fine.

It is encouraging to see someone else going to cranial sacral therapy.

Jillyan goes every other week and it has helped her torticollis so much --

and it is a much more gentle therapy than her doctors had prescribed. They

wanted me to hold her down and force her neck to go all the way to her

shoulder about 10-12 times a day. She screamed every time and it was heart

breaking and I then was referred to this cranial sacral therapist who is

just wonderful! She has even helped with draining Jilly's nasal passages

when her congestion is up and also in draining her ears when she has an

infection. She was diagnosed with an ear infection today and her therapist

did a session on her ears and she is back to her happy little self. We are

still doing the 10 day antibiotic thing, but she is no longer

pulling/rubbing her ears. I'm glad as tomorrow is our first neurologist

appt and Friday is her VCUG (one year check). Wish us luck!

Yes, the cranial sacral work has helped Dylan in many areas - torticolis,

migraines, seizure like episodes, megacolon, balance, posture, sinuses, -

you name it it has made an impact. The body is so connected that obviously

a torticolis is more than just a stiff neck. It affects everything.

Who does your CS work? Dylan actually sees a DO who does osteopathic

manipulations as well as CS. His OT that emphasizes the sensory integration

part, does some myofacial work and some basic CS work. She is the one who

referred us to Dr. s.

Honestly, I keep going because it is very relaxing for Jilly and she is only

1 year old -- we've been going since March. Her therapist is a certified

Osteopath (Upledger Institute in Florida). She helps babies with reflux

issues (both feeding and urine) as well as head shape involving the plates

(Jilly is in a doc band to reshape her head), and much much more. I had

never heard of this until I started researching alternative therapies for

torticollis. Her OT has recommended sensory integration therapy, however,

Aetna refuses to pay as they consider it experimental and not proven --

which is so aggravating. Both her OT and PT have went to a session as they

are interested in CS and they are working together with her CS therapist on

how to best coordinate their therapies. Her PT has taken one session of CS

work, however, it is very expensive and it is hard to get the state to pay a

lot of money for certification. She as well does some CS work when Jilly is

congested or has ear problems.

I will agree that torticollis is more than a stiff neck. It is affecting

Jilly's ability to crawl and her head control as it is painful for her to

raise her head in certain directions while she is on her stomach. She has

come a long way since March and now can move her head past midline. We are

also concentrating on her left shoulder where her heart surgery was.

Putting weight on her arms is not her favorite activity -- she is an expert

crawler when on her back -- but not on her stomach. She has the strongest

little legs!

I am encouraged to hear that you have had great success with this. I am now

just starting to file with my insurance and I will be shocked if they pay,

but we are going to continue anyway as we feel it is a benefit to her along

with all the other therapists. Best of luck with your little guy!

We unfortunately pay for Dylan's DO out of pocket, $90 a visit. Bu when you

think about it, $90 vs. all the other, I would rather pay. Of course the

insurance will pay to do surgery for a bowel obstruction, but not for Dr.

s to prevent one. They will pay for EEG;s and phenobarbitol, but not

for Dr. s. Oh well, I am just thankful we have someone who can help

Dylan without tossing a bunch of meds into him everyday.

I am sure many of us here remember those back scooting days.

Hello,

I could not let the headache issue pass without addressing it. My

daughter Katelyn has had headaches for many years. Most of it was caused by

a severe sinus infection. She was a step a way from a psyc ward because she

was having severe behavior problems. She was ask to leave her school. Her

doctor would not believe she was in pain. I thought she was. With the help

of a friend we saw a ENT who did 3 surgeries and I did 7 months of

antibiotics after a port-a -cath was placed. I look back and it was an

amazing difficult time. I was also pregnant and sick with morning

sickness-all day!! I cannot say that we have no headaches any more, but

they are not daily. They are 2-3 time a week. She is also better about

communicating them and I treat her with ibuprofen and Maxalt if they are

really bad.

Good luck to all

Katelyn(11)Charge, Jenna(6), Shayna(4), Callie(1)
