Guest guest
Dear friends, Re: Madhya Pradesh uses radio to combat AIDS, but statistics is a mockery of facts. It is good to know about this programme and work for awareness campaign initiated in M.P. As you know we are running a hospice for children with HIV at Gwalior details on www.helpchildrenofindia.org and an awareness programme too through our mobile hospital in slums and rural areas to a limited extent. Though we have plans for a wide spread general awareness campaign as well for starting a counselling and treatment centre, but are not able to start those for lack of funds with us. We agree that Madhya Pradesh is low prevalence state but these figures of 1701 people only in whole of State of Madhya Pradesh are far from truth. I am sure there are thousands more who are living in isolation or undetected. I was surprised when on enquiries for Gwalior and Chambal region in early 2004, we were told by local health authorities that they did not have any positive person as per their records, though there were many which we knew as per personal contacts and Radha, the cause to initiate this hospice was brought to us through a Government run Orphanage only. These facts tell for the mockery of such statistics. I wonder if I could have contact details of Mr. Gulati, (of UNICEF) if we could initiate this programme in this region too. With regards and best wishes, Dr.B.K.Sharma, Gwalior Childrens Hospital Charity (Registered Charity No. 1063694), 14, Magdalene Road, Walsall, West Midlands. WS1 3TA (U. K.)
