Guest guest
I do the same. I get all of my stuff from Bariatric Advantage too. Makes it a heck of a lot easier just ordering from one place LOL As for the iron and all of the other stuff. I need to make an appointment with my GP when I get back from Mexico for blood work. Guest guest
toi i agree with and understand what you were saying .. but just to let you know no one said this is solely a B-12 deficiency, the problem was when asking her physician he treated her very rude and she was highly upset after her appt. no way i would ever try to diagnose someone, i dont have that expertise. i was only trying to give some help, some input since he isnt being very helpful according to what Celeste said happened at her appt with this Surgeon. i hope it all works out the best for her.. I was told to do the same. I tend to take it more often than that. Easier to remember! Kathy
Guest guest
I am taking the Bariatric Advantage multi, too. The chewable only because my surgeon did say that it was important to allow digestion to begin in the mouth. So I only take chewable or liquid vitamins. So I prob get alot of B12 but that is ok with me!! Rather have too much since it doesnt hurt to overdose on it like some vitamins. Re: Re: Help PLEASE B-12 Poll ? hi julia glad you are taking it .. the trace amounts you get in a multi vitamin is no where near enough.. at least not from any of the many many vitamins i have looked at oh i think bariatric advantage does carry one that has enough .. its probably higher in those that are specially designed for WLS patients... Guest guest
Y'know, since Celeste is such a new postie, I can't help but think she should be considering and speaking with her docs about other possibilities, and not focus so closely on a B-12 deficiency. I say this because it usually takes much longer for a deficiency to impact your system enough to cause numbness and tingling. Now, please note that I said USUALLY. I'm sure this is not true 100 percent of the time, just like all health issues. Now, there is a possibility that Celeste was deficient prior to surgery, although this should have been noted in her pre-op tests. Only Celeste and her doc and find this out and go from there. I do think the doc should be pressed for tests so an answer can be found and healing can begin, but if we focus too much on one particular area, we stand the chance of missing out on something else that needs attention. Please Celeste, keep talking with your doctor about ALL possibilities and by all means, don't exclude anything this early on, even a B-12 deficiency. Good luck and keep us updated. Guest guest
I agree Toi!! I think she needs to be cek out by her Doc. It takes a while (in most cases) for a deficiency to show up. Guest guest
I do B12 shots once a month. My surgeon said twice a week on a sublingual, but I'm happy with my shots. Chelle

Guest guest
LOL Ive replied to 4 posts on this I think...Im tellin ya..DAILY!! I dont care what that doctor says. You can't OD on b12 so why not give it a shot if for no other reason?? I went deficient in 4 wks after being admitted into the hospital for emergency surgery. When I came out, I had forgotten all about b12..nor had I been given it in the hospital. I was deficient and symptomatic. It was quickly resolved by getting back on it daily. As I said in my last post, I know people who take it weekly...but that is INJECTED..not orally. Good luck!! Hugs, ~Kat~ > > hi everyone, Can you please help me in helping Celeste .. we are discussing > how often to take B-12. Guest guest
here! Maybe this will help! http://www.bariatritioncenter.com/b12.htm Heres just a part of that article: Symptoms: Symptoms of vitamin B12 deficiency can include lack of energy, parathesia (a sensation of numbness, pricking, tingling, or creeping on the skin, especially in the hands and feet), diminished vibration sense and/or position sense (usually but not always occurring first in the ankles and feet), unsteadiness, ataxia (inability to coordinate voluntary muscular movements), moodiness, mental slowness, poor memory, confusion, agitation, and depression. Delusions, hallucinations, and even overt psychosis have also been known to occur. Often, by the time vitamin B12 deficiency is detected, clinically significant neurological damage has already occurred and an aggressive supplementation program must be initiated Treatment: B12 deficiency can usually be corrected by a supplementation program prescribed by a physician. Typical treatment protocol includes heavy initial doses (oral or intramuscular) of B12 for 1-2 weeks followed by regular supplementation thereafter (daily if taken orally, weekly or monthly if by injection) and follow-up testing at decreasing intervals once MMA levels are normalized. At least one study has shown that oral treatment is actually more effective than intramuscular (parenteral) (see Clinical References, below). See the daily if taken orally? LOL If I had longer arms I'd reach out and grab you and sit ya down I just can't reach that damn far! LOL ~Kat~ > Hi Alisa > thank you for your input > i think it will be interesting to see what everyone has to say > i have never heard of having too much B-12 as it can cause any problems .. > but Celeste was also told too much B-12 can cause nerve problems too > so i think its helpful to take this poll and get others input .. > > hey have a great weekend .. > > > >
Guest guest
OH WAIT! This part is important too!! ... Daily Requirements: The RDA for vitamin B12 for healthy adults is 2.4 micrograms (mcg) per day, 2.6 mcg during pregnancy, 2.8 mcg during lactation, and proportionally less for children. B12 is stored in the liver so that doses larger than 5 mcg are poorly absorbed by persons with healthy and unaltered digestive systems and are not more effective than smaller doses. However, for persons in high-risk groups, the prescribed dosage is usually 1,000 mcg per day, which has not been shown to cause any adverse effects We are that high risk group because we do not absorb b12 from our diets anymore!! Ok off the soap box! Where's my coffee LOL Kat
Guest guest
Yeah, me too. I don't understand docs that perform life and body altering surgeries without feeling like they should be more committed to their patients after care. " scalpel, money, ta-ta " It ticks me off.
