Guest guest
Hi Alisa thank you for your input i think it will be interesting to see what everyone has to say i have never heard of having too much B-12 as it can cause any problems .. but Celeste was also told too much B-12 can cause nerve problems too so i think its helpful to take this poll and get others input .. hey have a great weekend .. Guest guest
wow once a week ? so are you taking once a week? it just seems strange to me when regular people are recommended to take it daily and yet we do not get as much nutrients therefore we would definitely require more. i appreciate your response thanks
Guest guest
yes that's what i thought .. and what i do .. but i am not showing any signs of a vitamin overdose .. not that i am aware of my surgeon knows how much i am taking too i was told that we store the excess and it isnt harmful to us thanks for your input cynthia
Guest guest
hey darcy thanks for responding .. i cant wait to find out what Celeste's blood work shows up this next week. The neurologist will have her do blood work on tuesday, good that the b-12 has helped in reducing your cramps,
Guest guest
hi julia glad you are taking it .. the trace amounts you get in a multi vitamin is no where near enough.. at least not from any of the many many vitamins i have looked at oh i think bariatric advantage does carry one that has enough .. its probably higher in those that are specially designed for WLS patients... Guest guest
lol never heard that one but what i know is that our bodies store the excess b-12 . doesn't all make sense to me .. go figure
Guest guest
you seem to be doing really good .. and taking Calcium Citrate is what you should be taking .. Tums is not good like many have thought .. i think studies and tests have shown that Calcium Carbonate as contained in Tums and most Calcium supplements is not digested or broken down as well for WLS patients like Calcium Citrate.. which is easier to digest and therefore better absorbed into our bodies. Guest guest
Ladies I take ONE SUBLINGUAL B-12 PER DAY. I was getting a shot once a month until someone told me about the sublinguals and they do just as good a job. I can't believe her surgeon told her that she didn't need B-12....that doesn't even sound remotely true. Personally I'd seek a 2nd opinion as soon as you can. Good luck Celeste! > > hi everyone, Can you please help me in helping Celeste .. we are discussing how often to take B-12. She knows others in her area that take B-12 once a week and was recommended by her surgeon .. Who by the way her NOT taking protein since she has a hard time getting it in is NO BIG DEAL .. he told her dont take it. GRRRRR I am so mad at this guy. He also said no need for her to do any labs to check levels . I think this sounds rather strange. I told Celeste that from what I know and I have heard .. and been told by my surgeon who takes things serious and seems quite knowledgeable to take B-12 daily. > Please let us know how often you take B-12 . > I did read the label for B-12 and it recommends daily to take one tablet or as directed by your phsycian. > Thanks for your help, > > and Celeste > > > >

I think I better get more clarification from him or my PCP. I have blood work scheduled for this Monday so I will ask them to check those levels. Guest guest
My surgeon didn't tell me squat either! I learned everything I know from you guys!!! He never told me about protein, he said to take a multi vitamin, never said it had to be chewable. Told me to take tums for my calcium.....wacko!!! Guest guest
I would make sure you do labs when things change in your life. I would get them done if you lose weight unexpectedly (if you are about at goal..and all of the sudden you drop weight), if you gain weight (5 or more lbs in a short period of time), if you plan on having a surgery (I got my labs done before I had my tubes tied..), I have my done before the winters here because we have long dark winters. I take my B-12 once a day. I find that when I don't I run out of energy and catch colds easier etc. This is when you may have to stop and listen to your body. We need to listen to our intuitions! As your addiction to food gets curtailed you may be able to hear that voice more often. I also have labs done before I take on a new excersise program. If your surgeon balks at doing labs..find someone who will listen to you. This is the only body you have. Carol Sly (Welcome to the Alaskan experience!!) Lovin' Life! Natural Mama to my girls. Guest guest
I take it every day. I was having some cramping problems and since I have become more regular in taking it, it seems to have stopped. I am now using the one off the site on our home page, so Robyn can get the benefits for it. I think I will also start using it for the calcium pills too when I'm ready for new ones. Guest guest
My surgeon is the same and I have read a book from a surgeon who said a vitamin is a vitamin..and recommended children's chewables. My surgeon also said that he did not remove alot of my intestine so I should absorb fairly well. Mine is proximal. However, I have decided for my own sake to take calcium citrate not tums and to add sublingual B12 and adult chewables from Bariatric Advantage. I want the best for me.
