Melatonin? I have tried 3 mgs. 1 mg. and 1/4 mg. Long term and short term. Nada.

I even double the dose of 3 mgs. I have tried EVERYTHING for sleep as I have

posted in the past. Drugs, herbs, melatonin, you name it. I am tired of trying

things that don't work for me. I am hoping that the tests that are being run can

provide some clues.

I am wondering if we should start another topic ie Live Cell Therapy

or Human Growth Hormone?

I for one am hugely interested in this therapy and how it affects

CFS, Hashi, Andrenals etc.

As I said I am about to start a course of HGH.

Did you take it when you were sick? I have a cold ATM and am due to

start on Tues.

My Dr said that when taking it I won't need to bump up my thyroid as

these hormones will be assisting the thyroid uptake. So I wonder if

your Endo was saying the same thing in a different way eg when you

stop the HGH then you would need to be taking more hormones for

thyroid and adrenals.

How much has the HGH affected your quality of life eg energy level

etc?

From what I have gathered this course (HGH) is rather 'alternative'

to mainstream medicine ( I live in Australia). Is it the same in the

USA?

Thanks

Geraldine

I used to have sleep problems also. Have you ever investigated being deficient

in

magnesium? I found this was a major problem with me and starting supplementing

it has

been a godsend in the sleep department. I now have no trouble falling asleep or

staying

asleep. I was used to taking a calcium supplement everyday but did not realize

that I had

an imbalance between the two. I used to have a very difficult time relaxing

enough to go

to sleep and then once asleep I would awaken several times during the night,

usually at

least one of those time resulting in me being awake for a couple of hours during

the night.

I could never get comfortable, was constantly tossing and turning. I was

exhausted, trying

to take care of a child with a chronic illness on top of it. I now take

approximately 1200

mgs of magnesium a day, in 3 different forms. The type I use at night is called

Natural

Calm, you mix it in hot water and drink like a tea. Here's a test to see if

you're deficient in

magenesium, http://www.thewayup.com/newsletters/081501.htm. Try it, you might

be

surprised, I know I was.

Geraldine:

My endo said that GH deficiencies go hand in hand with adrenal problems and

thyroid. She later told me, after I was on GH for several years, that most

of her GH patients end up needing cortisol and Armour at some point. That

is all I know. I have looked for info on this but not found any. She did

say it is an HPA axis that involves all 3.

What is your starting dose? Yes I did start when I was sick. If you have

any types of fever blister then it may get worse initially. When I started

GH, I had just started dating the guy I mentioned that I recently broke up

with. He had a bump on his lip and I point blank asked him if it was a

fever blister (herpes) and he said 'no' it was a little thing he gets from

shaving. WELL, I had NEVER had a fever blister before and I had just

started the GH and got my first fever blister (from him I realized) and it

turned into about 6 of them and I had to go to the doctor.

It is possible that was my first break out having gotten it from him but I

always thought the GH made it worse. Anyway, now I get a fever blister when

I get sick or tired. Never had them ever. That is the only bad reaction I

had. I immediately felt better and slept better. Just that horrible herpes

break out. One of the reasons I left him is that he is not an honest person

Do they check IGF1 levels by standard bloodwork?

No, they have to draw an extra tube (lavendar rubber stopper) and send it

off to a lab that runs Somatomedin C or IGH1. It is not expensive but IGF1

must be requested. The results will come in about 2 weeks later than the

rest of the blood work drawn on the same day.

Does anybody have any knowledge of the connection of iodine with

sleep/circadian rhythm?

Like I mentioned before, I have had severe insomnia for more than 10 years.

I have been mega dosing of iodine (50 mgs) and it seems to be helping my

insomnia. I wasn't taking it for that so it's sure not a placebo effect.

I am able to stay in bed thru the night. In fact, I was able to stay in bed

until 9 am this morning. That is a miracle for me.

Thanks,

Pamela

Did you have any side effects after taking it or did it just help the

I had no side effects other than the herpes outbreak, which may not have

been related to the GH but to having been exposed for the first time (oral

herpes).

It does change your nitrogen balance so you remain more hydrated.

I am shokced to be reporting this, because I alwasy figured there

isn't much difference between brands, but I ahd some Melatonin from

Swanson's (online) and i had to break open the 3 mg capsule and take

only about 1/3 of it.

Then wehn I ran out, I got some Nature's Bounty brand melatonin from

the local store. For whatever reason, a 3 mg tablet of that seems to

do little to nothing....

I had the same result a few years ago so now I always buy Life

Extension melatonin because I know it works. Can't recall which

brand(s) didn't work for me though but I found a big difference

between brands.
