Guest guest
Hi all, I am a 33 female, diagnosed Nov 01 with a fasting of 13 and a hba1c of 11. I began low carbing the day after my diagnosis, and withing 4 months my hba1c was 6.1. I have dropped 47 pounds. I do not take med's, I used diet and exercise to control my diabetes. My husband and I are now trying to add to our family. As a result of the need for folic acid and dairy products I have adjusted my diet to include more carbs in the form of whole wheat bread and 2% milk.....oddly enough my pre-meal numbers are lower then when I was 30-45 grams of carbs per day. My post meal numbers linger between 6.1-6.8 (109.8-122.4) with this way of eating, with low carbing my numbers were usually 5.6-6.0 (100.8-108) post meals. I am finding that my body can tolerate more, with no increase in activity. For example, today I ate a burger with the bun and a salad, then 2 bits of real chocolate moouse. My 2 hour post meal was 5.6 (100.8), my three hour post meal was 5.1 (91.8). So here is my question...it seems that my body has reduced it's insulin resisitance, is there a test available for me to request that will test my level of IR? As well, I heard that the use of Metformin in person's with IR or pre-diabetes will in fact prevent the onset of full diabetes, ....as well as assist women with PCOs (which I have/had) to conceive, so should I consider going on Metformin now for the above? Jacky - who is as confused with her question as it reads...because if Metformin prevents the onset of type 11, what it would do with me is just mask it, right? hmmmm
