Guest guest
I'm not Christy but I'm sure she'll respond in the same way...if you get your BGs down, alll the other stuff -- including cholesterol levels -- will fall into line. So concentrate on getting those BGs down! Guest guest
well, this is my usual shopping list: lean beef, hot dogs, pork chops, eggs, bacon, sausage (this works for me); heavy cream (for cooking), half and half (for coffee), limes, lemon (i use them to cook and in my water), diet drinks, berries, cantaloupe (this also works for me); seafood, chicken; lettuce, and any greens for salads; and only the raw vegies listed on the posts that you get here (for the life of me, i can't remember the website). i don't like all the vegies, but green beans, broccoli, cabbage, all the salad greens (meaning tossed salad), cukes, zukes, summer and yellow squash, eggplant, green/red/yellow peppers, CELERY, SF puddings, cream cheese, ricotta or cottage cheese, feta cheese, cheddar/swiss cheese. some things i buy but watch CAREFULLY: corn, tomatoes, sealegs, salsa, BBQ sauces or actually anything containing tomatoes or sugars; beets, and anything that says " diet " . read the labels. i'm picky and peculiar with what i eat, so lots of things on the " OK " list are not things i care for. i'm sure vicki or wendy one will have tons of better suggestions. and you can check the archives here for lots of 'recipes' that they have posted that are really super suggestions. pat > > Does anyone have suggestions on some low-carb foods that I might want to > pick up at the grocery store tonight? Guest guest
actually, i call it a 'pain in the butt', but maybe " lifestyle " is a better way of looking at it. or 'adventure'. those are more positive. pat > > Again, thanks for all your patience and help as I strive to learn how to > control my diabetes (is it considered an illness or a disease?). > >
Guest guest
You can eat all the meat/chicken/fish you want, no carbs in that... You can eat a lot of any of the below listed veggies, tho some are less carby than others...(zucchini have practically none, if you like zucchini...) spinach cauliflower broccoli brussels sprouts summer squash (zucchini, crookneck, etc.) spaghetti squash mushrooms asparagus greenbeans cabbage sauerkraut bok choy avocado (fruit but who's looking?) salad greens of all kinds See, you have all kinds of choices! Fruits...a few strawberries or raspberries won't do too much harm, smile. Buy some heavy cream and pour it over the berries...or whip it up. Cream has less carbs than lowfat milk, surprise surprise! Stay away from peaches, apples, oranges, pears, etc. Vicki In a message dated 07/11/2002 12:07:49 PM US Mountain Standard Time, misscindy8@... writes: > Does anyone have suggestions on some low-carb foods that I might want to > pick up at the grocery store tonight? Guest guest
, I do eat fruit, but not bananas or grapes.... so far, strawberries, blueberries, and cantaloupe are okay, but in limited amounts. I measure out half cup servings. If I eat more, it will cause a rise in my blood sugar. Sandy ------------------ I already know I should get raw veggies, and probably not fruit,
Guest guest
Does anyone have suggestions on some low-carb foods that I might want to pick up at the grocery store tonight? , Here's a suggestion for a low carb dinner that's also very tasty.... cold, boiled shrimp, dipped in melted butter, grilled chicken breast, spinach lightly sautéed with olive oil and garlic, mushrooms sautéed in butter, salad with lettuce, a smidgen of tomatoes, bacon, and blue cheese dressing -- 1/2 sour cream, 1/2 mayo, salt & pepper to taste, and blue cheese crumbles. Strawberries with whipped cream (sweetened with Splenda) for dessert. Mmmmmm..... that should give you a start :-) Sandy ---------------
Guest guest
Here is a lo-carb shrimp recipe I got from my BBQ news group for you to try: Parsley Shrimp This is a great recipe for the grill! 2 pounds shrimp, shell on 6 cloves garlic, fresh 1 onion, medium 1/4 cup parsley, fresh 1/2 cup olive oil, or peanut oil 1 teaspoon basil, dried 1 teaspoon dry mustard 1 teaspoon salt juice of 1 lemon Puree all ingredients except the shrimp. Marinate the Shrimp for at least 1/2 hour. Soak bamboo skewers in water for at least 1/2 hour. Thread shrimp on bamboo skewers. Grill over charcoal. Do not peel the shrimp prior to grilling or they will dry out. Enjoy!!! ========= I may not have gotten all the facts, but at approximately 7/11/02 2:22 PM I believe Sandy is rumored to have said: > Does anyone have suggestions on some low-carb foods that I might want to > pick up at the grocery store tonight? > >
Guest guest
Glucose level, by far!! It's amazing how much the other things fell into place once the glucose was managed. NEW DOCTOR REPORT as of yesterday: All tests, including Cholesterol and Triglycerides are finally within normal limits! I'd still like to lower the cholesterol, especially the LDL, but this is great progress. Kidney function test came back normal too. My A1c was 5.6, up from the last one at 5.2, but still okay. I can't really figure out why it was higher this time. Home tests have been consistent. Oh well. Guest guest
ball park. and you know what, i just considered them meat (protein) and didn't read the label. oooooops. then vicki (??) or someone just posted and said they had carbs. i'm going to the doctor Monday and i'm guessing he will suggest that i actually go to the nutritionist or dietitian. i still have no clue how many carbs, etc. is good per day, which might be the reason i'm gaining weight. i'm eating 'better', but i'm also thinking that since i do eat butter, cream cheese, whipping cream, etc., that i'm adding bad stuff in addition to cutting out sugars, etc. my BS was in the 110-120 range most of the day yesterday (and i forgot to eat once i was so busy), but i'm also hoping that some diet plan other than just eating meat and vegies at meals will get me to the point i want and ned to be. pat > What > brand do you usually get? Guest guest
Pat, I've found a wide variety of carbs in the hotdogs in my stores. What brand do you usually get? I've been eating kosher hotdogs lately since they seem to be the lowest in carbs.
