I HATE when I hear this. An antihistamine is a band aid. I would take

her temp when she is resting. Nasty I know.. anal is the only accurate

way, but if it is under 102 she is hypo. MANY cockers are hypo. Dogs

need ALOT more thyroid than humans do and for a dog that size I would

start her on 4 grains a day. and go to 6 grains in 2 weeks. You can

monitor her progress by her temps. Prednisolone is better in dogs as you

only have to give it twice a day. For immediate relief a Pred taper

would be in order, starting at 10MG twice a day then after three days go

to 15MG then another three days 10MG, another three days MG and

maintenance dose of 5MG a day after that. The taper should jump start

getting rid of the itch. Then you need to determine if her skin problems

are actual allergies or YEAST. Yeast is the most common skin problem in

cockers.Where is she affected? Does ti have an odor? I worked with a vet

dermatologist for four years that was some of the best GROOMING

instruction I could have gotten anywhere! He understood the adrenal

thyroid connection in dogs. A book I will recommend is " Pets At Risk " by

Alfred Plechner, sometimes you can find it on Ebay for under $10.

Hello Val, Just got back from the

dentist, (HAD HAPPY GAS) WHAT A VACATION THAT WAS. Sadie, My cocker,

her skin is dried out, lots of flakes, My Husband say's she stinks all

the time, her ears mostly, I came from the vet just now, he gave he a

rx of cephalexin, she has been on this for a month now, he wants to

try another month, she has a very bad dry caugh, mostly when I miss

giving her the nonichie meds, I looked around town for some CORTIF, I

MUST HAVE A RX FOR IT, I dont have any of it for myself yet, As for

the PRO steroid, he wants to wait 5 day's first, then try that, Also,

I dont have extra Armour yet, So, can I start her on that poison

Levothyroxin 175 mcg? Or do I wait for my Cortif to arrive and start

her on that first, Then start the thyroid meds, OR Just start the

SYNTHROID and convert her over when my Armour comes in??????---

Good morning Val, I dont know if this has anything to do with what I

gave Sadie, But I gave her half of one of my old Synthroid pills at

bed time, She went all night without iching or dry coughing, all

night, we both got some sleep,I have not seen her itch or cough this

morning as well, Can I keep doing this until I get my Thyroid-s, I

have not taken her temps yet, I forgot to get a rectum thermometer

yesterday, My old Synthroid is 175mcgs, Not MG, MCGS, I did not notice

this until I gave it to her... THANK YOU VAL
