Guest guest
Hi, I was Dx'd w/ hashimoto's 15 yrs ago, and adrenal insufficiecy 1.5 yrs ago -- though I'm not sure I got an accurate adrenal diagnosis. I just got my saliva test results from DiagnosTechs, and I'm confused about how to proceed. Saliva results: estradiol 15 (5-13 follicular -- Started period day of test) progesterone 123 (20-100 follicular) free testosterone 18 (8-20) fTSH >600 High (26-85 nIU/ml) fT4 0.29 (0.17-0.42 ng/dl) fT3 0.49 (0.28-1.10 pg/ml) TPO negative *(my blood tests are always high for thyroid antibodies) DHEA 5 (3-10) cortisol burden 61 (23-42) cortisol,8a 18 (13-24) cortisol,12p 23 H (5-10) cortisol,5p 11 H (3-8) cortisol,12a 9 H (1-4) Medications (taken in the mornings): HC - 10mg Synthroid - 112mcg Armour - 7.5mg Current symptoms: can't sleep till after 12am/trouble waking up (needing more sleep than usual); acne/clogged pores/thin skin on face w/ easy scarring; reactive hypoglycemia + sugar cravings; low body temps (96.6); hair loss, dry, frizzy hair; lips super-cracked/peeling nonstop; irritable; easily fatigued; aches and pains; legs numb when sitting too long or during sleep; lost a few pounds recently (already underweight); started getting eczema; feel like a 90-year-old... Any insight is appreciated.
Guest guest
You are still woefully hypo, definitely need more thyroid medication You need to be off hc for at least 2 weeks prior to testing, so these results will not show your true adrenal status Are you sure you are only taking 7.5mg armour? That's only one eighth of a grain! Guest guest
Were you on HC when you did these tests? If so that could be why you are so high in the morning. I would suggest you get off the synthetic T4 meds and raise the Armour, your thyroid labs are horrible. Also Phosphatidylserene (available in health food stores or online, just Google it) would also help level out your nighttime levels to allow you better sleep which also will help lower the AM to a more normal reading. 7.5 mg Armour is a minute dose. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

Guest guest
Thanks for your response. I was under the impression saliva tests could help assess treatment efficacy. The instructions didn't say anything about discontinuing oral hormones. Plus, I was worried about suddenly stopping the hydrocortisone. For the tests, I collected the 1st sample 24 hrs after my last dose of meds, then took my meds, and 4 hours later, collected the noon sample. When the TSH came back so high, I didn't know what to think. I had blood work done in December, and the TSH, T3 and T4 were in range. Back in June, the blood level of free T3 was high (TSH in range, 2.56), so I was told to cut the Armour from 15mg to 7.5mg. Over the years, my Synthroid dose goes up, but I never feel an improvement. If anything, I keep getting worse. I guess I could try adding back some Armour, see how it goes. > > You are still woefully hypo, definitely need more thyroid medication > You need to be off hc for at least 2 weeks prior to testing, so these > results will not show your true adrenal status > Are you sure you are only taking 7.5mg armour? Guest guest
According to this doctor you can test while on meds to see how your treatment is going. There is a specific protocol for doing it though. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/HormonesandHealth- Naturally/message/1788 Dianne > > Thanks for your response. Guest guest
Well, I have no idea about that but from what I have read he/she has treated patients for 15 years and he/she definitely knows how to read saliva and lab results. I have learned a lot from that site myself. Dianne > > >>According to this doctor you can test while on meds to see how your > treatment is going. Guest guest
I STILL disagree with this. If you take HC at bedtime it will LOWER ACTH thus lowering your AM cortisol. So you still are only seeing part if the picture testing on HC. You see if it is too high maybe, if you catch it peaking.. Who knows how fats YOUR digestion is? I can tell you form being DIabetic it is differnt in everyone. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
