Guest guest
> > > How old is your daughter and how did you know she had low growth hormone? > The test is called somatomadin C or IGF1 levels. > She is 13, and her IGF-1 was low - 160 (199-658). Her progesterone is above pregnancy levels, her T3 is low, her T4 is about midrange, and her A1C is 6.1 (range < 6.0). Adrenals - AM depressed but all others in range, but still pretty flat. We went to ped endo #1 for testing for thyroid & he tested the IGF-1. He's since been fired for generalized dr idiot syndrome. We're on to ped endo #2 who seems pretty good. Not thrilled about everything, such as doing an ACTH stim test, but unfortunately I think we're going to have to pay to play. Since she's at the Children's Hosp, they are at least cognizant about doing " one poke " and lots of tests...i.e., one IV, and everything from the IV, which WASN'T the way it was when I had my stim test. Other than that, she's doing some DNA testing, looking at 17-OH progesterone for non-classical congenital adrenal hyperplasia and did NOT pooh-pooh me when I asked for Epstein-Barr & rheumatic fever to be tested. Also concerned with the family endocrine history - thyroid galore on my mom's side, thyroid & adrenal for me, and thyroid & diabetes for my husband. She's also testing for a condition in which the contents of the stomach empty too quickly but the insulin levels don't respond appropriately. I don't know what that condition is called...hadn't heard of it before. The dr told me in the 1st appt that she is drawn to treating kids with chronic conditions or conditions that are tough to figure out AND she's in research. She also said that her bias is toward working with drs in research, since they tend to be able to think outside of the box a bit. Amen, sister. So, I hope she's a good one ultimately. So far, so good. Now if I could just find someone interested in my case! , I welcome any input you may have on all of this. I'm pretty much out of my league with my daughter's test results. Thyroid & adrenal I could figure out, but this goes beyond that. Warmly,
Guest guest
Hopefully the doctors will address her low growth hormone. Even 199 is low for her age. It is low for a 40 year old. So her level needs to be at least 300 or 400. 300 is low if you ask me. I try to keep mine between 160 and 200 and I am 51. The range is way too large and the lower end is way off. -- Re: Low IGF-1 etc. > > > How old is your daughter and how did you know she had low growth hormone? > The test is called somatomadin C or IGF1 levels. > She is 13, and her IGF-1 was low - 160 (199-658). What do they think causes yours? Can it be a pituitary issue? Wonder if mine is low, since I feel just like you described in the mornings, even with 12.5mg HC. Guest guest
Low IGF1 can be cause by many things. As we age somatostatin production is increased and this binds up growth hormone so it is not available in the body. My pituitary was scanned with an MRI and it looked normal. I am assuming my Lyme Disease caused it but my working with radioactive GH may have done some damage. There is plenty of literature on it. Lots of rejuvenation folks use it but I only use physiological doses, they use higher doses. -- Re: Low IGF-1 etc. > > Hopefully the doctors will address her low growth hormone.
