Guest guest
Dear all On the September 20th 2006, The New Indian Express in its supplement City Express has published an article " Schools slam the door in boy's face " . It is such a pitiable event that even after the Tamilnadu Government's proclaimation that all the educational set up were provided HIV/AIDS knowledge and sensitization, there is no effect in the minds of the people. Although there are red ribbon clubs in schools the awareness is in zero level. It is heart wrenching to read the article which said " Just because a student is HIV infected, he was neglected the right to education. Not even one school in Chennai is willing to admit the boy in their schools. " Is this the result after 15 years of sensitization, Prevention and awareness? Should not one school have admitted the boy? If this is the situation what will happen to the entire positive peoples' children education? Where have we failed to bring a change in the minds of the people? If we follow the suggestion of the so called learned academicians to hide the HIV status of the children and get enrolled in the institutions; Where can we avail the stigma and discriminiation free environment? The rights are common for all the children, be it positive or negative. HIV status is not the criteria to provide or withheld the basic educational right to a child. Are we allowing the children to blossom in thier lives or curbing their future? Think about it! Daisy, TNNP+ e-mail: <tnnpplus@...>
