Guest guest
Hi Harry: I'll definitely post here and tell you all what the dietician has to say. it seems to me that carb counting is a lot easier than the Diabetic Exchanges would be. I sure hope that this dietician is up-to-date with her ideas. If not, I will be very disappointed. Becky and Cassidy, Pilot Dog, Poodle maddpoodle27@... Guest guest
Becky: Actually, there is a way to translate diabetic exchanges into carb-counting. One diabetic exchange generally equals 15 grams of carbohydrate or one " carb choice " . It's just that carb-counting is simpler, eliminating extraneous information and placing the emphasis on what counts with respect to blood glucose control. Believe it or not, though, some people say they get confused with carb-counting and prefer the ADA Exchange List. Such folks generally want to be told what to eat rather than exercising freedom of choice and taking full responsibility for both their triumphs and their failures. With carb-counting, it's readily apparent what went wrong and what went right. Guest guest
Hi Mike: Being far from perfect myself I think it would be easier to count carbs rather than having to remember exchanges. I'll let you know that I think about that, though, after meeting with the dietician. Becky and Cassidy, Pilot Dog, Poodle maddpoodle27@... Guest guest
I was just at my dietcians office yesterday, we got into that discussion as she asked me what I was using now. I had considered both and told her I was carb-counting but the exchange list was good for more ideas on food if you wanted them. She is very much for the exchange list, but you can work with someone who is. She thought that was harder carb-counting but if I liked it and it was giving me such fantastic results, to keep doing it. Also they use more carbs per meal, I think 50, not q2uite sure, but I try to keep to 30, knowing it is the carbs that will give me all of those side effects if I get too many of them. So, we can't always agree on things with our health care providers but they can still hell us in many ways. Vicki " For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Guest guest
Hi Connie: I definitely will let you all know what the dietician says next Wednesday. She might have some good ideas that haven't been discussed here. One way or the other my meeting ought to get some more good discussion going and I have no doubt that I'll learn even more from this fantastic group. I'm also hoping that the dietician will send my doctor a report and support my reasons for wanting to test. It would be nice to have the doctor's agreement on that one, but if I don't I'm going ahead and doing what I think needs to be done. Becky and Cassidy, Pilot Dog, Poodle maddpoodle27@... Guest guest
Hello Becky, I don't blame you I'd do what I thought needed to be done too. Hopefully she does send a report to your Doctor and that will spur him/her on to help you get your treatment ball rolling. Guest guest
Well, I am glad to her your dietician is at least willing to work with you. If you exercise a lot, you cold probably eat 50 grams at a meal once in a while. It sounds like you are dong well on 30 though; good luck.
