Guest guest
Hi Dahlia, You might have a good point there - thanks for the suggestion. Will try to do the dosing farther apart. Worth a shot. I did it 4 hours apart originally so that I could take it the same time as the HC and avoid confusion. Today I took 2.5 when I got up at 7 and will dose again at around 1pm to see how it goes. I don't want to dose much after 2pm because I'm afraid I won't sleep. It hasn't happened to me yet but I don't want it to either. I've read too many posts from people on the NTH board that can't sleep. I'm usually up at 5:30am and since being off this week for the holidays I'm getting up at 7 or 7:30 - I hope I'm not throwing off my system taking the HC later than I normally would. Ugh - 4 years of this and I still don't have it right. At least I have a doc who prescribes Armour and goes by the frees and not TSH. Guest guest
Once I was having an attack and wanted my wife to take me to the ER she told me to take a pill. I called EMS and they took me to the ER. after much testing they found I had a bad Panic Attack hell I though I was having a heart attack. The Dr. told me never over look anything like this the next time this happens come to the ER at first they said I was having a heart attack. So now I tell my wife nothing about my health and if she ever needs to go to the Dr. or the the ER I told her she better have a way there don't look at me what comes around goes around. And I am not the only one that has this problem I have talked to a lot of men and women that are Sick and have the same problem. It seems when your sick for a long time they look at it as if it's an inconvenience to them. I would take my wife to the ER is something happened to her but I will be damed if I am going to let her know this. Here mother was dam sick she was like the only mother I ever had and I made her live with us and took care of her. When my wife came home from work all they did is fight. We lost her this time last yr. she was 84 and we still are not over it. My wife is having a hard time with her loss because she feels so bad about how they got along. Now my Wifes ant. is sick with bone cancer and lives in Fl. So now we are on call to go there anyday now. The way I feel I don't think I can go. And this will just add fuel to the fire. Your damed if you do and damed if your don't. Guest guest
Kathy, I never have any problems with not sleeping! I am at 27.5mg. of HC and the bedtime dose ALWAYS puts me to sleep. Keep your options open, ok? I am not sure that NOT dosing after 2pm is a good thing considering our bodies need steady but, lower doses in the evening? Wish you the best! Dana I don't want to dose much after 2pm because I'm afraid I won't sleep. It hasn't happened to me yet but I don't want it to either. Guest guest
I know your having a lot of brain fog been there but still you can read from the index find some thing your worrried about in the index and read about it. I would gauge my cortef dose by doing my temps and charting them if your temps avg. is up and down from day to day your need more cortef so start doing this. Find the chart in this link and keep track, if your temps level off your on enough HC but say your temps are low below 98.6 this is were my temp goes when I up my does of armour when it goes down to about 98.2 in about 2 weeks for me I up my dose of armour 15mgs. So doing this helps me to understand how I am doing. I am at 2.5 grains so when I get to 3 grains I will hold this for 4 to 6 weeks and see how my tests look. http://www.drrind.com/tempgraph.asp#directions Phil roesslk wrote: ok - thanks - will do the 10-5-5 today which is what I was at in November. Question - you mentioned doing 10-10-5 - should I be taking more than 20mg of Cortef? As for the book, yes, I have it - got it quite some time ago but don't have the brain function to read it. I'm able to work and do a good job but some things, like reading, I just can't do because I can't comprehend. What scares me about Cortef is if something were to happen and I needed surgery or something. I'm afraid something would go wrong. Also - what would a thyroid dump feel like? I've read about it but can't recall - do you get shaky and sweat? My problem has been this never ending fatigue all week - I fell asleep on the sofa at 5PM yesterday and didn't wake up until 7:30am this morning. BIG indicator of too low Armour dosage or could that also be an adrenal issue? Also, I'm sorry that your wife has Hashi's and isn't doing well. Dealing with this stuff is a real pain. Guest guest
I take 4 pellets of Isocort on rising (5:30 a.m.) with mildly salty water, (Redmond's salt); I can't drink plain water first thing in the a.m. I also take 1-2 Iodoral, plus vitamins. Then I eat breakfast and take 2 grains of Armour sublingually. At 9:30 at work I take 2 pellets of Isocort (5 mgs., I think) and 1 Iodoral, plus selenium, which I take in the a.m. also. I take my Armour again around 1-2 p.m. along with 2 more pellets of Isocort and 1 more Iodoral, 1.5 grains for a total of 3.5 grains now. In 4 weeks I will go up 1/4 grain and see how things are then. I have a tiny little tupperware container and I put a label inside the top of the lid with the dosing times written on it and it is by my phone at work so that I don't forget. My forgetter is MUCH better than my rememberer these days, lol! The selemium is in tablets which I cut in half for a total of 2 tablets per day. C. C. Guest guest
Hi Dana - thanks for the reply. I was referring to late day doses of Armour, not HC - my apologies for not making myself clear. When I did the 10-5-5 of HC I did it first thing in AM (5:30AM), 4 hours later at 9:30AM and again at 1:30PM. If I take Armour too late in the day I can't got off to sleep. I've been told this could be different later on in time for me. I haven't had continuous difficulties sleeping yet (other than the per-meno crap) but had two instances where I was in meetings at work and took my last Armour dose too late (2PM). I got to sleep but needed to take melatonin in order to drift off and the next day had a " hangover " from the melatonin. I learned my lesson there and have excused myself to go to the ladies room, purse in hand, Armour in the side pocket, to dose earlier whenever I've been in that situation again. Also, thanks for the reminder to keep my options open. Janie on the NTH group told me at one point to think out of the box. This was particularly in reference to HC. I do my best to try other options but, for some reason, I can get to that point and then mess it all up out of fear. I will keep plugging along!! Guest guest
Hi Phil - thanks and I do need to take my temps. I have the Dr. Rind graph and the problem I had was taking my temps at work. I actually sat in a stall one day and the digital did it's beep. Someone in another stall, who had seen me go in said, " Kath, is that your cell phone? weird ring tone. " Hahaha. I did the temp graphs for only three days - had started on the weekend and did it Monday when I had the " stall incident " . Temps were very low (below 98) at that point and I was on 20mg HC. I will start it up again and I appreciate the reminder. As I've said, I fall off the health wagon and need that nudge to remember what I'm supposed to do. The brain fog doesn't help but if I set alarms for myself at work in my calendar and at home on my cell, I'll be ok. As for you, stay the course - I'm over 4 grains, as you know, and still am not well but I held the .25 grain increases as instructed. I just pushed myself off HC too soon. Guest guest
Kathy I hear ya all we can do is keep doing. I help men for low testosterone at 4 different boards and hear storys like this all the time. Women just don't understand it when there men can't work and find out they are sick due to low hormones. In most case's men with this problem have low cortosol and thyroid problems. Problem is Dr.'s don't catch it because there labs are in range. So these poor men withdraw into them selfs because they don't feel like men anymore and this makes the problem worse. I just take to a young man his testosterone was 175 range is 262 to 1200 his Endo told him he is ok and not to worry about it. The poor guy is ready to kill him self so he found us and posted I get this all the time. So by the time they get all this figured out the walls are up between the men and there wife's. And as the men are treated and get better to much water has gone over the dam to fix the marriage. I know as long as we don't talk about are problems with are health we are OK.
