Hi, Kathy...cataracts are very common and one thing that you really can't

blame on diabetes, smile. Yes, 43 is sorta young but not entirely unheard

of. A friend of mine had laser surgery on a cataract when she was 50. And

it had been present for some time before that.

OTOH, I've had a " beginning cataract " for at least six years now that hasn't

grown at all, thank goodness. And I'm 65. Vicki

Have to disagree with you Vicki....that is a rare occurence. I just this

last hour returned from my eye doc appointment...and I have the slight

yellowing of the lens as in the very beginning of cataracts. He said that is

more common from 48-55 but in diabetics it always starts early.

He gave me the stardard lecture on controlling sugars and some papers to read

but since I am half blind from having my eyes dilated I could not read them

nor see him. I just shock my head yes to some blur in the room.....

That's okay, Ressy, I'm always happy to be proved wrong, smile...however, to

split hairs here...your doc didn't say (as you quoted it at least) that

diabetes CAUSED the cataracts...only that in diabetics it may start earlier.

Not quite the same thing. Vicki

Thanks Ressy I appreciate the input. I was like ME 43 with Cataracts. YIKS

apparently though I have had this for awhile for at least 4 years. I was and

so was the doc in a hurry because he was running late and we had to pick our

daughter and son from a friends house. That is what the doc impressed on me

to about keeping good control of my sugars

Wow that is bizarre. This time they didn't even tell me they were going to

put drops in my eyes. The nurse was chatting away and she was looking in my

eyes and next thing ya know I had drops in them. I hate that stuff but at

least they can foresee future troubles.

My last dilated eye exam was much easier for me to handle. This doctor noticed

I couldn't keep from blinking, so he gently held my eyelids apart, both for

inserting the drops and later

for the pressure test. I was very grateful.
