Guest guest
Lynda - some other things you can do to get rid of the cold faster is to take Vitamin C to bowel tolerance. C is used by our white blood cells. When we are sick, a lot more WBCs are mobilized. C will boost your immune system. When we are sick, our ability to absorb & use C goes way up. Thus the note to dose to bowel tolerance. If you get diarrhea, gas, cramps, etc, cut down by a gram. I dose 3 grams/day (3000mg) normally. When I am sick, I can easily take 8+ grams with no diarrhea. Also, Echinacea will help you fight it off sooner. Saline nasal rinses will help clear congestion. Do you have a netti pot? Licorice root makes a very good expectorant. Zinc lozenges boost the immune system. Steam will loosen the secretions. Put a few drops of eucalyptus in a pot of hot water & breath in the steam. Eat plenty of garlic. It's a natural anti-biotic, anti-fungal agent & it boosts your immune system. Just make sure to crush/chop it 10 minutes before you eat it. This activates more of its beneficial properties. If you can eat it raw, so much the better - 2/3 cloves a day is good. If you cook it, you need to use a bit more. The heat deactivates some of its benefits. That old standby for a cold, chicken soup, is enhanced when you add garlic. Here are some herbals that are good for coughs & congestion: http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0FKA/is_2_63/ai_78476722 http://www.alternativemedicine.com/common/adam/DisplayMonograph.asp? storeID=02AD61F001A74B5887D3BD11F6C28169 & name=ConsConditions_Coughcc Hope you feel better soon, > > I've just realised that you have posted previously about a cold being extra stress > > When I said I'd no stress this morning I was thinking external stress but I've got a cold. I know you said you have stopped a cold from developing by stress dosing but is it too late when it's in full flow (pun intended) > > My chest is very congested, post-nasal drip is more like a river!! > Can't sleep at night because I'm coughing so much. Guest guest
thanks, believe it or not I've been taking 15 grams Vit C a day for the last 5 days and haven't even reached bowel tolerance although I have had the gas & cramps. I've also been taking garlic oil capsules, don't know whether they are doing any good or not. I'll have a look at the links you sent for coughs & congestion. Echinacea! I forgot about that and I do have some in the cupboard This is the first cold I've had for about 7 years and it has hit with a vengeance! Thanks a lot Lynda Re: HC dosing for a cold > Lynda - some other things you can do to get rid of the cold faster > is to take Vitamin C to bowel tolerance. C is used by our white > blood cells. Guest guest
The strange this that someone told me on Thursday night (I think) to take 5 grams vit C immediately. This was around 8pm, so I took the 5 grams and slept like a baby, no coughing whereas I had been coughing night after night before that. So the next day I dosed up on Vit C all day, no effect. Same every day since then and still coughing all night. Mind you, I haven't been coughing much today so we'll see what the night brings! Guest guest
Also try Oil of Oregano, it does come in capsules and is a very powerful natural anti-biotic. I also have used Kold Kare from the health food store and found that works to fight and clear up a cold. Along with the other suggestions. -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Guest guest
Zinc! Lozenges are good... drops taste terrible but work. One should start zinc several times a day as soon as one feels a " tickle " which might be the beginning of a cough or cold -it really helps shorten the process and sometimes will stave it off altogether. Zicam products with zinc in them (swabs for your nose, etc.) also help a lot. Guest guest
Wow - 15 grams! You really are sick <not that I didn't believe you >. Don't forget the zinc. I don't know if it's too late, but Zicam always works well when I feel a cold coming on. Use the nasal sticks with the gel - those work the best. It obviously won't keep it away, but it may shorten it. Take real, crushed garlic if you possibly can. The oils & pills don't have all the compounds that the real stuff does. Especially the " deodorized " pills. That just strips out all the medicinal qualities. > > > thanks, believe it or not I've been taking 15 grams Vit C a day for > the last 5 days and haven't even reached bowel tolerance although I > have had the gas & cramps. Guest guest
Slept propped up last night, did not cough at all but still woke up several times because I was uncomfortable. Coughed up a load of gunk (medical term!) this morning. Basal temp this morning 96.9 Three hours later 97.0 - aaargh! Lynda
Guest guest
Lynda, my AM temp this morning was 96.8 and I am feeling MUCH better after stress dosing 20MG HC last night at bedtime. I still have a tiny bit of congestion so may do the same thing tonight. I always seem to run a low AM temp (basal) after running a fever. My temp was 99.4 last night which is definite fever for me. BUT I bet today my three hour averages end up around 98.1 where they were last week before I got ill. The C boost makes my illness last 1 day instead of 2 weeks like I used to get this crap. IF I was lucky and didn't end up with bronchitis or Pneumonia. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store (Closing after Xmas!!!) http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
I took the extra 20mg hc yesterday around 2pm. Today I took an extra 20mg at 8.30am I don't sleep well if I take it at night, so I'm avoiding that The highest my temp was yesterday was 98.0 which is LIKE a fever for me, it hardly ever gets that high I think I probably have bronchitis but am trying to self treat because I can't be bothered to see the doc. One time I did that and ended up with pneumonia and scar tissue on my right lung! Guest guest
Do you have antibiotics? Fluid pills? Both of these I keep on hand for just such things. Fluid pills will help get rid of the congestion and I always keep Cephalexin in the house. Having had bronchitis at least 10 times and pneumonia three times, I can relate to the damage it causes. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store (Closing after Xmas!!!) http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
No, I don't have either at the moment. I've ordered some antibiotics though, should be here in a few days Lynda Re: HC dosing for a cold > Do you have antibiotics? Fluid pills? Both of these I keep on hand > for > just such things. Guest guest
>>I've ordered some antibiotics though, should be here in a few days<< One thing I have learned the hard way about self treating... BE PREPARED! Keep extra things on hand like a good general purpose antibiotic. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store (Closing after Xmas!!!) http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
