Guest guest
a friend just went through a hyst and is on HC I will forward your email to her withoyur permission. I thnk it is important for your surgeoin to knwo you are on HC. Cortisol is in VERY high demand for a major surgery to prevent SHOCK. They may want to give you Medrol in your anesthetic IV. If you still choose to not tell them, I woudl stress dose with 80MG the day of surgery adn for 3-4 days after. thsi is a major surgery. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store (Closing after Xmas!!!) http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/
Guest guest
When I went into surgery, I made them give me IV solumedrol, with a follow up booster 8 hours after the first dose. Then I weaned down with stress dosing a day or two after. It is dangerous to undergo surgery without HC, and a very large dose. It does not cause bleeding. -- HC Dosing For Surgery Coming Up Hi All, I'm going to be having surgery to remove and biopsy my right ovary, in about three weeks. If the biopsy comes back malignant then I will have a complete hysterectomy. I'm on 17.5 mg. of HC per day and have been for about four months. I know after trying to cut back that it's not time yet. When I go in for surgery, should I stress dose, and if so, by how much, and would that be for the entire day of the surgery or just only for the dose right before the surgery? I haven't told my MD that Im on HC, nor do I plan to do so because he doesn't believe in the saliva tests that told me my adrenals are so low (Stage 6). Is it dangerous to undergo surgery while on HC, are there bleeding risks or anything? I'm not sure my adrenals could handle the surgery alone, even given that I could taper off the HC over the next three weeks before the surgery. On the other hand, I don't want anything like excessive bleeding or whatever from the HC if that's going to be an issue. Anyone have any ideas? Guest guest
Yes please do forward my email to your friend. I wonder if it would be better for me to wean off it before surgery? I have 3 weeks until then, so I could try that. I just don't know if my adrenals are really ready for that. But I can try it and see how it feels, I'd know the first week if it was good or not. > > a friend just went through a hyst and is on HC I will forward > your email to her withoyur permission. Guest guest
I know that my Dr. will NOT give me any kind of Cortisol, not solumedrol or anything like it for the surgery, because he doesn't believe in adrenal fatigue. If he knew I was on HC. even just the 17.5 mg I'm on, he would tell me to get off it immediately. However, he is one of the very best doctors on the East Coast for the female problems I'm having, including possible ovarian cancer, so I REALLY need him. So that leaves me with having to self treat for this surgery. I'll try the 80 mg shortly before going in for the surgery, and then for the rest of the doses that day, and then taper back down over the following days. Thanks for the help Val and , appreciate it. > > When I went into surgery, I made them give me IV solumedrol, with a follow > up booster 8 hours after the first dose. Guest guest
,weather your doc likes what you do or not,you have to tell him that you've been taking HC. It has nothing to do with bleeding. When your body is under stress your adrenal work double time to keep everything pumping as normal.Without enough cortisol in your body you can go into shock and die.I hope I'm explaining it right but thats the basic idea. You can't take enough my mouth before surgery without taking a chance of getting sick on the table.I just had minor sinus surgery and they shot me up with a load of HC and followed up with even more prednesone after.Be smart and tell your doc.LOL Debbie In NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS , " C. Guest guest
if this doctor tells yo uto stop taking it immediately, he may be responsible for killing oyu in surgery. I will be blunt. This is very dangerous. I would discuss it wiht him, but if he tells you to stop taking it, I would ignore him. But give him the chance to treat it properly. Is he the one doing the surgery? Guest guest
, You could tell the anesthesiologist instead of your doctor. It is very dangerous to have surgery while on HC if they don't know about it. Your doctor should not be making this call, it should be the anesthesiologist. It's their speciality. It's vital that the anesthesiologist know this info. I'd recommend doing some research if you're thinking about weaning off and then having surgery. My foot surgery was what sent me over the edge this past summer and it wasn't even a general anesthesia. In addition it could be a problem if something goes wrong and you're out of it for a little while and no one knows that you need more HC, you could be in big trouble and no one would know why. The stress dose might work for the one day but what happens if you need more and you aren't coherent to be able to take it. Do you have somebody else who could stand in to look out for you just in case you aren't able to? Have you not had any luck with the iodine? Guest guest
Hi Debbie, I don't think there is enough time to stop either, really. I'd need at least six weeks, not three. Just to KNOW what my adrenals are doing after stopping and be sure of what they're capable of. I'm going to go ahead and write it on the pre-op paper at the pre-op dr. visit at his office where they ask you to list all the medications being taken, and I'll also write it on the hospital pre- op papers when I go in for the surgery, AND I'll make sure the anesthesiologist knows when he comes in to ask me just before the surgery what medication I'm taking. If the doc wants me to go off the HC, I will refuse, and he will then have the option of not going through with the surgery, or going ahead. His choice at that point. Thanks for the well-wishes Debbie! > > ,Even if he did want you to stop, theres not enough time. You > would not only have to wean off, but you would have to wait for your > own adrenals to kick back in.If he tells you to stop explain why you > are taking it.Its your body,he may not like it but what choice does > he have.I had a doc tell me to stop, and I did for a week.I blew up > like a balloon 12 lbs. in a week and then started again and I'm still > having problems, sinus infections and now have to stress dose.He can > tell you to stop and you can say no.Thhen he knows your on it and > will know how to take care of you during surgery. The anisteseoligist > (sp?)need to know also. There may be a way to do it yourself.I just > know that I would not want to have to have surgery and the doc not > know. Guest guest
I think this is the best choice ! He may fuss and fume but in your situation I doubt he will refuse the surgery and if he does you would be better off with another doctor anyway. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV My Ebay Jewelry Store (Closing after Xmas!!!) http://stores.ebay.com/valeriescrystalcreations http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/

Guest guest
Hi Linn, Thanks for your suggestions. I think you're right and so many others on here and who have emailed me offline. I've got to let the Dr. know and the Anesthesiologist both. So that's what I'm going to do at the pre-op Dr. visit in his office a week or so before the surgery, and also I will write it down on the hospital forms that will be given to me when I check in, AND I will also tell the Anesthesiologist when he comes in to introduce himself and ask me what medications I'm currently on. I guess that really is the safest thing to do by far. I'm not going to go off the HC at this point, after really thinking about it I'd want a month to taper off, and then at least two weeks more to be sure about what my adrenals are capable of. And it seems like putting them through a major surgery right after going off the HC wouldn't be the smartest thing to do to them at all. So I'll stress dose the day of the surgery, and during the days after for a week or so and see how it goes. I do want everyone there in the surgery to know EXACTLY what to do if I go into shock and need Cortisol. It's a real pain that my Dr. doesn't believe in adrenal insufficiency, especially considering he is one of the best in his field of GYN otherwise. Well, I guess we can't have it all in one doc. Yes, I'll have someone there who will be watching out for me after the surgery to make sure in case I go into shock he can tell them I need Cortisol. The iodine has helped my thyroid function somewhat, but I've switched to Iodoral. Still, without the HC the thyroid hormones aren't getting into my cells very well. I can tell when I miss a dose of HC (oversleep or whatever), the next day my Thyroid will swell up a bit from being hammered to make more thyroid hormones - when in fact I'm making enough but it just doesn't get into the cells without the HC. The other day though, I was painting my daughter with Lugol's and decided to put some on my arm too, after already taking my Iodoral for the day (half a tablet, 6 mg.) and I got a pretty nasty upswing in thyroid hormone output from it, and apparently didn't have the receptor cells available for it to go into and was kind of sick for a while. I know that I should be on both more HC than I am (17.5 mg) for my weight (apparently should be on about 35 mg. HC) and that I should be taking at least 25 mg. of Iodoral per day. But now isn't the time to start upping it just before a surgery. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions and help Linn, I appreciate it very much. > > > I know that my Dr. will NOT give me any kind of Cortisol, not > > solumedrol or anything like it for the surgery, because he doesn't > > believe in adrenal fatigue. > > > > If he knew I was on HC. even just the 17.5 mg I'm on, he would tell > > me to get off it immediately. > > > > However, he is one of the very best doctors on the East Coast for > > the female problems I'm having, including possible ovarian cancer, > > so I REALLY need him. > > > > So that leaves me with having to self treat for this surgery.
