Guest guest
Mo, Have you tried just taking magnesium for sleep instead? Or maybe just good old Benadryl, but just the plain stuff, only the antihistamine, nothing that has a decongestant in it. Several of the OTC sleep aids consist of the same ingredient used in Benadryl, it's just packaged under their brand name and they charge twice as much for it. Hope you're feeling better. Guest guest
Re: is there anyibody out there? Hi Mo, I know next to nothing, as I only started HC in the beginning of October ... and still haven't been able to stabilize. :0( But I'll throw my thoughts in here, as I had palps for four days earlier this week that were scarring the bejeezus out of me, and mine were low compared to yours!!! Things I think contributed to or caused my palps: I missed my Magnesium dosages four days LAST week. I'd been erratic in dosing my water with sea salt in days prior to and during palps. I don't know if either of these has anything to do with your situation, but I'm going to increase my Mag to 800mg at bedtime (helps with sleep too), and try harder to add 1/4 t sea salt to my water glass 2-3 x daily. I used to use Valerian too Mo! It worked well ... but I read somewhere, couldn't tell you where now, that taking it without break would be poisonous to the system, so I stopped. I hear Melatonin works for sleep too??? I've never tried it though. Don't really think I've helped much Mo, but please know you are NOT alone when those 'palp panics' set in! Hope they soon go away for good, Liz

I really need to ask Santa for some nice, cosy loungewear kind of stuff for those days when I don't go very far. Been checking the internet and all I could find that looked cosy were these fleecy kaftans but of boy do they look dreadful. I am a bit snowman-shaped as it is........ But that's another sotry. H/c and palps. Well I thought they were gone but whaddyaknow? Last night I took 400 mg Magnesium x 2, 4 100 mg 5HTP (recommended dsoe 1 or 2) AND half a tablet of the dreaded Nytol which may be giving me more problems than it is solving as the side-effects could be contributing to the palps and the general exhaustion/grogginess. I thought I was all set up for a nice sleep. I had found myself stating to nod off in the armchair around 9.30/10 pm so I took myself off to bed at 10.30. Did NOT put the telly on as I usually do in the hope that this would help also. And justas i was was drifting off, you guessed it! THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP.............. I could not believe it, I really thought I was home and dry. So I just lay there and tried various meditation techniques to try and get to get to sleep but gave up in and the end and got up, went to the kitchen and got some l-Theanine and some homeopathic tincture of Hawthorn and went back to bed. And so to sleeeeeeeeeep. Ahhhhhhhhhhh. Bliss. I will send as a separate post the info I got from our sister list NTH about the use of l-Theanine and Hawthorn and some other stuff just the other day. I asked permission to copy to our list and so have a look at that Liz because there is interesting info about all of this topic. I found it so anyway and helpful as I say last night and the night before. I know next to nothing, as I only started HC in the beginning of October ... and still haven't been able to stabilize. :0( We WILL get there Liz and turn that (: into a lol. WE WILL, WE WILL, WE WILL, WE WILL! But I'll throw my thoughts in here, as I had palps for four days earlier this week that were scarring the bejeezus out of me, and mine were low compared to yours!!! Things I think contributed to or caused my palps: I missed my Magnesium dosages four days LAST week. OK. I have been missing mine also. Taking one day, not the next and certainly have been forgetting to take at bedtime. I'd been erratic in dosing my water with sea salt in days prior to and during palps. Yes I can see that regularity is very important. Foolish of me to let my stocks of supplements run down just because of Christmas expense. It is precisely at this time that I need to ne making a real priority of having what I need at hand. Do you simply forget to take the seasalt Liz? Or is it hard to arrange? I don't know if either of these has anything to do with your situation, but I'm going to increase my Mag to 800mg at bedtime (helps with sleep too), and try harder to add 1/4 t sea salt to my water glass 2-3 x daily. Maybe you could add the salt in a water bottle first thing, or last thing before bed and have it all ready in the morning. Would that work? I suppose it would need to be a large bottle and I cannot remember for the ife of me whether you go out to work Liz? I used to use Valerian too Mo! It worked well ... but I read somewhere, couldn't tell you where now, that taking it without break would be poisonous to the system, so I stopped. Yes I have heard that it is not good for the liver so that is why I stopped using it also. I hear Melatonin works for sleep too??? I've never tried it though. I did try this and it did not help me. Shame, would have been a good solution. Don't really think I've helped much Mo, but please know you are NOT alone when those 'palp panics' set in! You have indeed helped Liz. It really is good to know that I am not alone in dealing with this. This is the first time it has happened outside of Armour increases so I am not sure what is really behind all of this. I did take a very large increase of one grain about six weeks ago now and had palps every night for three weeks afterwards until Val came up with the idea of taking my last dose of Armour at bedtime. This worked and then, regrettably, the palps started again recently with some severe personal stress that has been going on. Hope they soon go away for good, Oh yes, that will be so good! thanks Liz. Mo ___________________________________________________________________ Re: question on heart palps But, if you take extra Armour by accident, this can have an affect on the heart. When you increase your Armour dose or accidentally take a double dose or something, this puts a strain on the adrenals, by increasing their need to make cortisol and stimulating them more. They can become depleted of hormones after a while and this causes cortisol to drop low in the system. The brain reacts by asking the adrenals to make more hormones by putting out a lot of ACTH. This ACTH will stimulate production of a hormone called aldosterone if the adrenals can't make enough cortisol. This aldosterone is converted in the blood to angiotensin, which increases blood pressure and stimulation of the heart. Also, when cortisol goes too low in the system, this prevents thyroid hormone from getting into cells throughout the body. Cells need cortisol to be in balance with thyroid in order for thyroid to be used. So, when cortisol from the adrenals gets too low, thyroid will build up in the blood and not be able to get into soft tissues. This has a stimulating effect on the heart, since the heart has to pump blood and be exposed to increased thryoid in the blood. The heart is a muscle and very sensitive to stimulation by thyroid. It can also use other sources of energy when cortisol is low, where other tissues cannot. Muscles can break down protien for energy when cortisol is low. Soft tissues of the body need glucose, which is controlled by cortisol. So, it is entirely possible that you would have a delayed reaction to increased thyroid. The best way to avoid this is to make thyroid dose raises small, no more than 1/4 grain at a time and give more time between raises, like 4 weeks. If this happens again, you can try one of these: hawthorne Phytosomes, hawthorn berries, Bonito peptide, Taurine, theanin, or arginine. These should help to counter the effects of increased angiotensin and calm the heart. You can also try to eat a healthy snack. You can try a little cortisone of some type (adrenal glandular) or licorice root tea. But, usually after your heart starts acting up, cortisone or licorice doesn't always help. You could also try a magnesium and potassium supplement (low sodium V8 has lots of potassium), but this does not always help in cases of adrenal fatigue.
