Hello m1ao@...,

In reference to your comment:

ð Or is the Metformin curbing his appetite too much and

ð perhaps he doesn't need to take it three times a day

ð anymore? We both realize that he will have to go the

ð doctor's to talk about his prescription needs, but I

ð wanted to start here in this forum to get some

ð feedback.

What are his finger stick readings?

what is his HBA1C (the 3 month test the dr does)?

these 2 bits of info are most important for us to be able to give you any

feedback on what he might need/want to ask his dr about ;)

Also how tall is he, and roughly what does he weigh, and how old is he?

Hello m1ao@...,

In reference to your comment:

ð His stick readings are running about 140.

You want all his finger stick readings to be under 120.... most of us aim for

100 or less... (this is the normal reading levels)

If we keep them all under this level... then there will be very little chance

for diabetic complications such as

blindness

loss of toes, feet, legs...

sores that won't heal

kidney failure

cardiac problems...

I would suggest that he try to reduce his carbohydrate intake some...

carboyhdrates are breads, pastas, potatoes, rice, cereals, bakery items to

name a few...

If he can reduce his carb intake that will reduce his finger stick levels....

as will increased exercise....

Many type 2's can get off of all medications or at least the more damaging

ones like the sulfnomindes (sp) that he's on... if they can reduce their carb

intake.

Carbs are changed into sugar by the body... he'd never think of eating that

much sugar, yet he doesnt realize it when its a carbohydrate.

Hello m1ao@...,

In reference to your comment:

ð We have both done extensive reading in that particular

ð area, that for every gram of carbs it is equivalent to five

ð teaspoons of sugar. In fact he has little to no carbs in

ð his diet.  His diet mostly consists vegetables, some

ð fruits, cheese and meats. So he and I are both making

ð certain that he will be around for a long time.

Great Pam,

Sometimes people take the info their dr's give them, and that's often not

including anything about avoiding carbs, its only about sugar....

I've found it amazing how many vegetables have a lot of carb in them... i

love veggies and have never had to cut back on veggies like i'm having to now

to lose wt.

A significant decrease in physical activity certainly will decrease the

amount he needs to eat, so it would not be surprising if it also reduced his

appetite. If it were me, I wouldn't worry unless he started loosing weight

very fast or became underweight and frail. Otherwise, it sounds like a

healthy adjustment to the changes in his life.

Pam,

You are aware that all fruits and vegetables are carbs, right?

I have lot of experience when it comes to breast cancer surgery. I have had two lumpectomies besides to mastectomies. When I had my lumpecotmies this didn't happen to me and they cut me around the nipple. If I were you I would call your doctor ASAP and find out what is going on. I will pray that all goes well and that you will heal quicker than I did.

I'm curious about the constant mention of God here, is it because of the illness or was everyone religious beforehand?

I have always been religious. I think something like this brings everyone closer to God.

Personally, I'm not into religion. I heard religion defined as man's attempt to save himself. Having a relationship with the Lord God almighty, after receiving Jesus's finished work at Calvary to die in OUR place for OUR sins and being adopted into our Heavenly Father's family to be considered the "sons of God" seems very important to those of us who look to Him as the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. It is He who has made us and not we ourselves; therefore, to seek His wisdom regarding our health, our fiances, and our future seems vitally important. He is all knowing, all seeing, and all loving. He wants what is best for us, and gives us the strength we need to keep going in the face of adversity. We can love each other because He first loved us. We know that without Him we are nothing, but through Him all things are possible. After all, He raised Lazarus from the dead, healed the blind, caused the lame to walk, brought healing

to the lepers, and the same spirit that raised Him from the dead dwells in us to quicken our mortal bodies. He is the only one in the universe who cared for us enough to send His son, the perfect Lamb of God, to take away the sins of the world. Every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that Jesus is Lord. His name is above every name..His name is above sickness, above cancer, above poverty, above injustice, above oppression, and above depression. We are honored to give Him the praise and the glory as we see improvement in our situations, because we know that He is working in our behalf as no man can. Even when we see delays and what appears to be defeat we know that our victory is in Him, as my husband declared as he left his mortal, corruptible body to go live eternally with our Lord in his new incorruptible body. He saw glimpses of his eternal home and continually stated in his last hours that God is awesome.

Even death has no victory to those who believe so even in what appears to some as our darkest hour, we put our trust in Him and accept our eternal reward. wrote:
