Guest guest
No, you can not " regularly cheat and get away with it. " (LOL) Now Vicki, let me address you as your adopted internet father for a moment. Considering what you and your husband Darryl do is it possible for you to regularly cheat and get by with your church duties? (LOL) Same difference my lovely daughter...Dad... glucose meter working, and a question: Well the meter is working, or i it me? It is now easy for me to do the test and all of that frustration is over, thanks to all who have helped and a couple who are not on the list but here. A question: I have found that a couple of times I ate what I thought was a bit too much carbohydrates. I got on the exercise bike and tested 2 hours later. it was both times down around 140, which I think isn't bad after any meal. Is this really as good as I think it is? Can I regularly cheat and get on the bike and make it okay? Yes I am serious about this. I want to do well but if I can have a little extra sometimes, well I'm only human. Vicki " For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus. Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord. Guest guest
I think that depends on how your meds react to your body and of course what you are eating. I don't there's a real good answer for that. You also want to be careful not to exercise if your bg is 200 or above. That's something I read some where but can't remember where. glucose meter working, and a question: Well the meter is working, or i it me? Guest guest
Vicki: Yes, 140 is acceptable. The reason Harry and some others say it's best to be 120 or under two hours after a meal is that the higher the tw-hour postprandial reading (assuming your control is good otherwise), the more likely there will be of cardiovascular damage. And many a nondiabetic goes to 140 after a meal. But the sticking point here is that they go back down immediately -- like within twenty minutes or so and you won't be able to do this easily without insulin injections. So what I'm saying is that 140 -- or even 160 -- is all right. But I wouldn't want to hit that more than once a month. Exercise does lower the bG -- after all, the muscles need that energy so it's taken from the bloodstream glucose. But I'd hate to depend upon exercise being a reliable (as in predictable) way to lower your bG a set amount. Why is " cheating " so important to you anyway? What's a goodie compared to your health? Mike > Well the meter is working, or i it me? Guest guest
yu are right. yes health comes first, and it isn't that important, but when I saw it work i thought, my I'm missing something here. I was a person who used to eat everything I mean every kind of food and lots of it. I've gotten used to the new lifestyle the last 6 months and am happy with it, but sometimes, especially if eating out, it just seems likethat old temptation comes back. But I will stay on course. Guest guest
Vicki, Sweetie I am your father, not your friend. It is my job, just as others on this list, to tell you what you need to know and not what you want to hear. (LOL) Now, for a serious moment, I think you will find that the information you will gain from this list is sound, practical advice which will enable you to maintain a healthy body for years to come. Diabetes can, if left uncontrolled, be a very dehabilitating problem which will eventually become deadly. Proper control is not a matter of rocket science, it is a matter of personal discipline and comittment. You are doing good so just keep it up. Dad... Guest guest
I think that is correct Mike. Re: glucose meter working, and a question: Seems to me I've read the danger point for exercise is 250 and above for a Type 1; 300 and above for a Type 2. You also want to be careful not to exercise if your bg is 200 or above. That's something I read some where but can't remember where. > glucose meter working, and a question: > > > Well the meter is working, or i it me? I got on the exercise bike and tested 2 hours later. it was both times down around 140, which I think isn't bad after any meal. Is this really as good as I think it is? Can I regularly cheat and get on the bike and make it okay? Yes I am serious about this. Guest guest
I think it's a mistake to think that just because one is diabetic they can't enjoy sweets. The old myth is that a diabetic can't eat sugar, and we all know that's not true. Theoretically, a diabetic could exist on sugar bubes. Now, no one can live well, or long, on sugar cubes because of the lack of nutrition. So, the thing with being diabetic is we need to eat better than everybody else because this is one way we can counteract the negative affects of diabetes. So, therefore, we had better not try to live on sugar cubes. Anyway, have a cookie or whatever, walk it off, or add a unit of humalog. Maybe when it's all said and done, those diabetics who abstained from sweets, while missing one of life's pleasures, may end up only adding a week, a month, or something rather small to their lives. Just one type 1 diabetic's, now almost 40 years, opinion. Dave glucose meter working, and a question: Well the meter is working, or i it me? Guest guest
My sentiments exactly. I rarely eat white potatoes these days. When I look at the carbs in a baked or mashed potato and consider how much insulin I have to dose to cover it, I often prefer to give up the idea of eating the potato and eating a candy bar instead. While I do this rarely, it satisfies my sugar addiction I use to fuel most of my life. glucose meter working, and a question: > > > Well the meter is working, or i it me? Guest guest
That is sort0of true, Dave. But too many cookies, along with too much extra doses of insulin, adds weight. This not good for anyone0-low blood sugars or not! Also, if type 2 eat extra cookies, unless they exercise a lot, it takes a long time for the blood sugar to go back down again. Guest guest
I want to diabetic classes with my husband who has diabetes. They in turn sent us to a dilation to help us learn a new diet for diabetic eating. She , the detain told us that everyone has to have some sugar but it is the that we have to watch. She told us that the lower the sugar in products the better but Del could have up to 15 grams of sugar in the product. so that is how we go about counting the. It has worked quite well for Del. And now that my sugar is near pre diabetes I to am watching how much sugar the food I eat has. It works well for us. As for other people it might not work for them. Nan glucose meter working, and a question: > > > Well the meter is working, or i it me?
