Just wanted to remind everyone that people with LBD have different reactions to

different medications. My mom was diagnosed in Feb 2011, although I'm sure she

had it long before that, the symptoms just weren't as troubling. We took her off

Zyprexa and saw am immediate improvement. She was unable to take Gabapentin and

Prilosec but has been taking Vicodin for several years for chronic pain in her

leg ( a fracture that didn't heal correctly), however Percodan causes her

hallucinations to get much worse. So, what doesn't work for one patient may work

fine for another. We always start small and increase slowly when trying any new

medication.

> Hi, sorry about your Mom's decline. I visited this site for a short time

before my Dad passed Feb 6 this year. This is my first time posting but thought

it was important for you to know our experience with pain meds. First let me

say we never had a diagnosis of LB and I am still waiting for results of

autopsy, but I always believed my Dad had LB after I started researching his

reactions to drugs. After a fall resulting in a small fracture to his pelvis

Dad was given Morphine in the emergency dept. Morphine causes depressed

respiratory and inability to void urine. When he was admitted to the floor they

gave him Tramadol which resulted in severe hallucinations. He saw many

different animals in his room, fire, men with guns were after him and hiding

under his bed, etc! He hardly slept because of the hallucinations. It was a bit

of a fight but insisted they take him off the drug. Months later he was in the

nursing home and they gave him Tylenol #3 with codeine. He had mild

hallucinations but he was very agitated, mean to me and the staff, hardly ate,

got headaches and constipation. I can't even imagine the effects Vicadin would

have. Pain meds cause severe side effects for the elderly especially if they

also have LB. He was ok with regular Tylenol. I hope this info helps.
