I *love* Rite Aid. Had one just a mile from my house and knew the

pharmacists intimately. Then they closed and I was crushed. But I

started going to another Rite Aid much farther away and they have

been wonderful. The main pharmacist bends over backward to help me.

In my experience Walgreens has always seemed very impersonal, but the

Rite Aid pharmacists really do care. Perhaps I've just been lucky but

it sure helps to have a sympathetic, knowledgeable person on my

side :)

IMPORTANT: Make sure to specify that you do NOT want LDN in a slow-

release form.

Reports have been received from patients that their pharmacies have

been supplying a slow-release form of naltrexone. Pharmacies should

be instructed NOT to provide LDN in an " SR " or slow-release or timed-

release form. Unless the low dose of naltrexone is in an unaltered

form, which permits it to reach a prompt " spike " in the blood stream,

its therapeutic effects may be inhibited.

Fillers. Capsules of LDN necessarily contain a substantial percentage

of neutral inactive filler. Experiments by the compounding

pharmacist, Dr. Skip Lenz, have demonstrated that the use of calcium

carbonate as a filler will interfere with absorption of the LDN

capsule. Therefore, it is suggested that calcium carbonate filler not

be employed in compounding LDN capsules. He recommends either Avicel,

lactose (if lactose intolerance is not a problem), or sucrose fillers

as useful fast-release fillers.

> IMPORTANT: Make sure to fill your Rx at a compounding pharmacy that

has a reputation for consistent reliability in the quality of the LDN

it delivers.

The FDA has found a significant error rate in compounded

prescriptions produced at randomly selected pharmacies. Dr. Bihari

has reported seeing adverse effects from this problem.

Pharmacies. Please see the above list of recommended pharmacies for

some suggested sources.

the LDN they make tested?  Is it just word of mouth that people are

getting better, having relapses?  I noticed that the pharmacy I use,

BelMar, is getting kind of a bad rap on the LDN Forum.  Some say it's

simply because they make quick release tablets, others because they

don't feel better immediately.   With MS I thought the idea is to

halt progression not cure.  Any improvement is a plus, Right?

Thanks Art,

The LDN I get is in fast release form and the filler is Avicel. I put a tablet in water and it was completely disolved in less than a minute.

I am still wondering who makes the determination of which pharmacies get on the OK list and how is it determined.

Hey Tonette,

Dr. Gluck is the owner of the LDN website. You should ask him how

they determine that.

Hi Tonette,

I am having some doubts about Belmar Pharmacy regarding the efficacy

of their tablets, wondering if they have the potency they are supposed

to have.

I did very well for the first seven weeks on LDN, mixing my own from

the 50 mg tabs. (see my response to newcomer Liz.)

Then I switched to the Belmar 4.5 mg tablet, and by week ten started

getting into an awful fibro-flare, with wide-spread tenderness, and

severe rib cage pain. I thought for several weeks that I was just

revisiting old symptoms, especially those that developed right after

my last flu shot.

Now I really think the tablet may be to blame. So today I mixed up a

new batch of liquid and mailed off a new script to Skip's pharmacy.

Will let you know how it goes.

I would hate to malign a pharmacy for mistaken reasons, so would be

very interested to hear if you and others are getting an adequate

response to the Belmar tablet. Maybe I'm just having one of those

inexplicable set-backs, but seven weeks seems a bit long, and I think

I need to make a change, to test my theory.

I am now in my 17th week on LDN.

Belmar is NOT on the list of pharmacies that are known to be reliable

compounders of LDN.
