Guest guest
Okay, this is a rant, but here goes: WHERE is it written that " lunchtime " must be at precisely 12 noon or " dinner time " must be at precisely 6pm? Here's the deal: I get up at 5am and have breakfast shortly after rising. Even with a " mid-morning " snack a couple hours later, by about 10:15 or so I'm ready for LUNCH, darnit... not a " good snack, " not " something to tide me over, " I want LUNCH... a MEAL. But at work, we're going through the " Appetite Awareness Workbook, " and every time our group meets and I mention how hungry I am at about 10 or 10:30 EVERYONE tells me I just need to get a little snack... maybe a piece of fruit or something. What, are the Food Police going to stampede my office door and remove the fork from my lips if I dare to eat " lunch " at 10:30. How ridiculous. The larger issue here, I think, is that we're SUPPOSED to be all about honoring our hunger, and coming to understand when you're hungry and doing something about it. Is it more sane to eat lunch at 10:30 or to push off your hunger until noon or so, at which time I have passed hungry and gone straight to GET ME A SIDE OF BEEF?! Anyway, this week I've been packing in my lunch bag some small containers of 1/2 a can of tuna or some peanut butter, so that when I'm hungry I have something there extra. I'm experimenting with both realizing that I get hungry about every 3 hours and DOING something about it instead of putting away the hunger because the clock doesn't think it's the right time for me to deal with it. I was actually really afraid that if I did this I would just pack in the calories, but to keep myself from going insane I actually calculated what I'd taken in over the course of several days of this experiment - even though I'm eating something every 2-3 hours, I'm actually not eating any more calories than I normally would if I just ate when the clock told me to eat a meal. Does that make sense? I'm really trying hard to just recognize and acknowledge my legitimate (versus emotional) hunger and give my body some fuel when it signals it wants it. Anyway, rant over... gotta run, it's 10:50am and I just ate my lunch in my office!! I think I hear the Food Police approaching!!!!
Guest guest
Gym, you may consider that a rant, but it sure gave me a SMILE!! I so know what you mean - our tummy's are NOT hooked up to a clock!!! I tend to eat 'starchy' (toast, cereal) in the am which leaves me hungry about 11 AM-ish. I now eat something 'protein' then if I am hungry for that. My latest taste treat is about 2 oz. of salami (dry, low fat which I find is more flavorful) and that satisfies me until 1-ish when hubby starts grumbling about his hunger - lol. (he's slowly getting on the IE path). So to answer your question I say NO, to 'lunch' being at noon on the dot! If you want brunch - go for it or even lupper (lunch/supper) at 2 or 3 (we sometimes eat our 'main' meal then) that's kosher as far as I'm concerned. And tell the Food Police to Back the FAT off!! Guest guest
I'm with ya sisters. I get up and go to work at 5 am. I can't eat right away, but am usually hungry around 7:00. by 10:30 I am ready for lunch, and 2:30 would love to eat dinner. Then, something light around 7 is ideal. I joke that I run on Eastern time. That would be 10:00 breakfast, 1;30 lunch, 5:30 dinner and 10pm snack. I don't always get to do that, because my family runs on Pacific time. But, right now, it is 11:00 am and I am making a moroccan pumpkin chicken stew for brunch, because we are going to the mall for dinner and I'm going to have a rice and bean bowl at 4:00. That'll probably do me for the day. Even God doesn't plan to judge a man till the end of his days, why should you and I?-Unknown __________________________________________________
Guest guest
Every time I try to eat yogurt and fruit for breakfast, I have a low blood sugar attack less than an hour later...just an oatmeal packet for BK will do that to me too. I've noticed if I eat " big " during the first part of the day (before 3:00) I am hardly hungry at all at night. That is an optimum time frame for keeping your blood sugar levels balanced. " They " are actually starting to wake up to that fact and basing " diets " on it now. (The 3 hour diet - for one) It sounds to me like you are getting good signals and really listening to what your body needs and when. I hope I can learn to do as well. Guest guest
That is what it's like for me, too. Low blood sugar will start cravings and binges in a way that nothing else, can, too. I do the same thing - eat heavier in the first half of the day, and the second half takes care of itself. I've also found for me, that also means having ot just protein, but fats early in the day. I have lots of butter on toast, cook eggs in coconut oil and butter, a glass of whole milk, (you already know about the butter and cream on my oats) or just put a blob of Virgin coconut oil in my morning hot cocoa. > > > > > > > > > Okay, this is a rant, but here goes: WHERE is it written that > > > " lunchtime " must be at precisely 12 noon or " dinner time " must be > at > > > precisely 6pm? Guest guest
I've been doign the happy dance around here - I ordered a gallon the other day and it just arrived . I used to get it through a buying coop, but i haven't had a chance to order from them, so just decided to break down and order a big bucket myself . It's so much better than those little ones from teh store. They run out too fast! I have some chocolates like that in my freezer - 'cept they are square cuz I made them in ice cube trays I use it for everything - besides butter it's almost all I cook with. I'm too lazy to make lard or tallow, (though I may now taht it's cooler weather) though I do have some goose fat for potatoes. I also find it helps heal a lot of little scrapes and infections, too. Guest guest
In England they have tea at 4:00, but it's not just the drink. It's also sandwiches and/or cookies or pastries. It's basically a meal. Then they eat dinner a bit later than we do. Seems to make sense. But no one else can tell you when you're hungry; that's what the diet industry tries to do! > > > > > > Okay, this is a rant, but here goes: WHERE is it written that > > " lunchtime " must be at precisely 12 noon or " dinner time " must be at > > precisely 6pm? Guest guest
Good for you! I think you are on the right track with this! I can't stand all these rules about when we should eat. I worked with a school teacher who would eat early before she left home and by lunchtime she was ready to pass out. So now she eats her lunch at her 10am break (that's about 3.5 hours after she ate in the morning) and has a snack at lunch. It works out perfectly for her. There are no rules and since I work at home (yes, I'm very lucky and grateful!), I never know when I'm going to eat, just whenever I'm hungry. That is, unless I have a full day of clients, then I plan a little more. I think it's kind of rude to chew in a client's ear! :-) Thanks! Guest guest
I forgot to share this - my IE mentor uses the term " feedings " instead of " meals " or even lunch, dinner, etc. to get rid of the mentality of large meals at certain times of the day. I like this term but it kind of reminds me of feeding a horse or something.... Thanks! Gillian Gillian Hood-son, MS, ACSM Healthier Outcomes It's not just about losing weight! Guest guest
Being a British family, we have tea. We don't have sandwiches - just the pastries, cakes, crumpets, scones, muffins...that kinda thing and have dinner a couple of hours later. I know a lot of people for whom dinner 'tea' and dinner are the same thing. But they don't necessarily have tea with it > > > > > > > > > Okay, this is a rant, but here goes: WHERE is it written that > > > " lunchtime " must be at precisely 12 noon or " dinner time " must be at > > > precisely 6pm? Guest guest
I feel on the verge of a breakthrough here for me, personally. I feel like if I ate my lunch at 10:30 or even 11 coworkers would say, " Oh, poor . She's so hungry she can't even wait until lunchtime. " Now, no one would ever say those exact words but I wouldn't put it past them to make some remark about how I must be hungrier than normal/before lunch/etc. I, too, get up between 5:30 and 6. I'm at work around 7:30 when I eat my yogurt (haha), granola, and piece of fruit (hahaha!). Around 9:30 I'm hungry for a little snack but by 10:30 or so I need something substantial. Maybe I need to experiment and learn to ignore all those naysayers!? --- Gillian Hood-son wrote: --------------------------------- Good for you! I think you are on the right track with this! I can't standall these rules about when we should eat. I worked with a school teacherwho would eat early before she left home and by lunchtime she was readyto pass out. So now she eats her lunch at her 10am break (that's about3.5 hours after she ate in the morning) and has a snack at lunch. Itworks out perfectly for her. There are no rules and since I work at home(yes, I'm very lucky and grateful!), I never know when I'm going to eat, just whenever I'm hungry. That is, unless I have a full day of clients, then I plan a little more. I think it's kind of rude to chew in aclient's ear! :-) Thanks! Guest guest
How about Fuel Stops? Or maybe that would be too much like getting gassed up?!? (what a silly mood I'm in tonight!) Guest guest
This reminded me of something that made me double take and then smile about when we toured New Zealand - a mother turned to her small child and told him to " Eat your tea! " Of course being a yank, I immediately pictured someone chewing on tea leaves... lol > > Being a British family, we have tea.
