Guest guest
Yes sometimes I think I eat out of habit but since I have been doing IE I have been trying new things and finding things that I like. The habit part for me comes in the times that I eat I have gotten into the habit of eating at a certain time and I have to break that it is hard though. Guest guest
I like the healthy foods I eat too, but sometimes I wonder if it's what I really WANT......or is it because I know I SHOULD be eating this way and I am afraid of weight gain which I already have a bit. > > > > I've been thinking lately that through all the years that I have been > > dieting, watching myself, etc. Do I really like the food that I eat > > and do I want it when I really eat it. Guest guest
I had a friend scoff at me when I said I won't eat something I don't like just because it's good for me. Most healthy foods I like, so I refuse to eat something I don't like, whether it's healthy or not. I don't think not eating beets and sweet potatoes is going to kill me. And now that I'm no longer dieting, I am relieved to never again have to buy fat free salad dressing, cottage cheese, or egg beaters. __________________________________________________
Guest guest
I don't know what I like to eat yet. I used to eat really healthy foods because "it was good for me," and then binge on junk. Well, since starting IE, I've eaten way more junk in the past few months than I think I have eaten in my entire life. Turns out, I don't even like much of it when I'm allowed to eat it! And other things, although I enjoy the taste, make me feel just awful. So, I think I might actually like the healthier foods because of the way they make me feel. And, I think that might end up being a key for me -- to eat in order to feel good (which is different than "to be healthy" even though the end result might be the same), with some junk thrown in every so often. Guest guest
Yes, old eating patterns have given me some hassles when it comes to IE. Eating fast, within 'meal' concepts and all the LEARNED habits from a life time of non-IE type meal preparation and serving seem to be comfortable for me so I had to find ways to alter these to better incorporate IE considerations. I also de-frost (meats) in the refrigerator for our next day's dinner so I am not cooking to my immediate food 'wants'. BUT I do only make and eat what we like and like you, when we worked packed a lunch often from leftovers etc. I never minded this and enjoyed what I ate so that hasn't been my difficulty. Overeating for emotional reasons as well as rebelling against diet (mentality) seems to be where I need to be most aware. I will say that since doing IE I have become perhaps a bit more discriminating about my 'goodies'. Guest guest
I question it all the time. Someone posted a while ago that they realized they didn't like sheet cake. Ironically, the next day my office had sheet cake. I took a slice and realized that I didn't like it at all. I definitely think that sometimes you get so used to saying you like something or thinking you like it that you forget to take a step back and look at it again to see if you really do like it. And usually that's the hardest thing to do, but hey if we can find we don't like somethings and we really do like others - then isn't that fabulous. It takes a while sometimes to know where this comes from. I don't know how long it took me to get there. It's just so much a part of me, I can't even imagine feeling any other way. I told my husband the other night, I know I used to eat that stuff - but now I look at it and it just seems impossible. so many things to figure out, aren't there? Guest guest
Fat free dressing...ugh!! I will buy lowfat, though. I can honestly say that 80% of the time I don't like what I'm eating for breakfast or lunch. It just seems so mundane and expected. For breakfasts I usually have yogurt and granola, and a piece of fruit. This week I have run out of yogurt so I boiled some eggs. I've been having an egg, a meal bar (like Luna or Kashi), and a piece of fruit. For lunches I usually have some sort of frozen thing. Healthy Choice or Lean Cuisine meals, etc. I add some baby carrots and, occasionally, some pita chips. For dinner I am more satisfied. I have a little time to cook so I do. If I can have enough to take leftovers to lunch the next day that's a bonus but I don't count on it because I'm feeding a family of five, one of which is a teenage boy. --- Jane wrote: > I had a friend scoff at me when I said I won't eat > something I don't like just because it's good for > me. Guest guest
I know most of you will find this bizarre, but I actually like some of the fat free dressings! One - honey poppyseed, is excellent on vegetables like broccoli. I've also bought and enjoyed some of the Carb Options dressings. Mainly I've picked these up cheap at a grocery outlet store just to try them. I also prefer the low fat cream cheese since it tastes the same to me and is less fat, which I don't mind missing. One thing I never really got the hang of was fat free yogurt. The only way I could eat it was mixing onion powder in it and using it as a sour cream substitute on baked potatoes. Even then it just wasn't the same as even low fat sour cream. Oh the things I used to try to eat 'healthy and low calorie' - YUCK!! and definitely not satisfying. > > Fat free dressing...ugh!! Guest guest
Skim milk is one of those things that I've tried and tried to enjoy because it's supposed to be " good " for me, but I just hate it. Everyone says you get used to it over time, but is bad food something I WANT to " get used to!? " I'll stick with my 2%, thanks. So many of the diet foods are just horrid, and we've been eating or drinking them for ages because we're " supposed " to, for our own good. STOP THE MADNESS! To me one of the most freeing things about IE is the freedom to eat food you like. Man, doesn't seem like that would be such a revolutionary thought, but it is! I just discovered this week the difference between eating stuff (fruit, porridge, etc) with real sugar on it, as opposed to the various artificial sweeteners I have been using for ages. I thought I didn't mind the taste of the sweeeteners and that they didn't affect my enjoyment of what I was eating - but OH MY GOD the difference once I tried them again with a bit of real sugar! Cheers S PS - I loathe skim milk too. Gimme da reeeeeal stuff! Ice cold! <yum>
