Guest guest
When my Wife switch from Synthroid to Armour she started at a low dose 30mgs in 4 weeks tested and the Dr. went to 6O mgs. in 4 more week after testing he went to 120 and she ended up in the ER we though she was having a heart attack. We told the ER that her Armour was raised and they said that will not do this. After they did every test BCBS would pay for they told us they could not find any thing wrong. This is the crap the ER does the next day she went to her Dr. and he told her to stop the armour so she was on this for about a week and stopped cold and she had not problems. It's too bad at the time the Dr. she was seeing did not know about low Cortisol and Thyroid. Now that I find I have the same problem here I am searching the web to help her and find I have the same problem. It's in the Dr.'s Desk Reference Book to allway test Cortisol levels first before treating thyroid because if your Cortisol levels are to low it can kill you. Yet they don't do it. Should I be concerned? Kathleen in Ct. Here. Hi all. I stopped armour abruptly recently because of two trips to the ER and Val's advise to stop all thyroid until my adrenals and cortisol started to build up. I was only taking Armour for a year (three years before that on Levoxyl) and I kept getting TSH's that were .08 with low average on T4 and T3. After putting myself through too much stress being chairperson of a reunion committee, I ended up in the ER twice with anxiety. My endo started me on Cortisol and every time I took it, I would get a thyroid dump from all the armour floating in my blood and it sent me into anxiety and to the ER. After two trips, Val and I decided (Val mostly) that I should stop all thyroid until I build my cortisol or the armour lowered in my blood. It took two weeks to feel better and stop the jitters. Then my labs come back that my TSH has gone from .08 to 99.1. Well the endo calls and tells me to start up armour again. That didn't work out, still gave me terrible jitters. So, I switched back onto Levoxyl for the last two weeks. I have only got myself up to 7.5 to 10 mg of HC during the day and I went from 25 mcg of levoxyl for one week and this week upp'd it to 50mcg. Well, mistake. I have to up the HC if I am upping the Levoxyl. So, I am back off Levoxyl for a while (2 days) until I lower it in my blood to up the HC, then up the levoxyl. I had another jitter session this morning and didn't go to the ER, but wanted to for a few hours. My blood pressure went from 110/70 to 143/85 to 149/111 and it went like that for an hour with temps of 99.6 to 100. It all finally calmed down in two hours and the BP went back to 128/70. The endo finally called at 7 p.m. this evening (about time) and he said, take more cortisol. Whenever I feel jittery, don't take any more levoxyl, take more cortisol. It is up to me how much and when He doesn't give me help with timing or amounts and he hung up and told me to stop whining. I hate being like this. I really can't stand it. Guest guest
Phil - I'm glad to hear you and your wife are back on track. What a story! This is the second day I've stopped Armour (60mg.)/day and I feel no repurcusions. I've also learned to make sure my temps don't fluctuate before introducing Armour again. You can actually feel the hormone buildup in your blood and it gives you a terrible hormone headache. My temps were stable for up to two weeks at a time and I thought that you can introduce Armour at that point, so I don't understand this all. The others here give it at least 5 days, so what am I missing? philip georgian wrote: When my Wife switch from Synthroid to Armour she started at a low dose 30mgs in 4 weeks tested and the Dr. went to 6O mgs. in 4 more week after testing he went to 120 and she ended up in the ER we though she was having a heart attack. I hope you didn't pay that bill. Totally ignorant! They don't need to know about Armour specifically, and shouldn't have to look up anything, because they shouldn't have gotten their damn license if they don't know that thyroid meds in general in excess in the bloodstream can cause those symptoms. I'm not going to split hairs with them & start discussing cortisol or anything complex like that...all I would expect to get a license is that they know that too much thyroid hormone - your own or supplemental, synthetic or natural - can cause those symptoms. Please join me in shouting out a collective " DUH! " to that idiot doctor! God forbid he should encounter a patient with adrenal crisis. That poor patient ought to say his or her goodbyes now! We told the ER that her Armour was raised and they said that will not do this. After they did every test BCBS would pay for they told us they could not find any thing wrong.
